Best Open Headphones for VR (Immersive Headphones)

more_vert
I have been wanting VR for awhile but I just started looking in the audio game and I was wondering, what's a good set of cans for gaming and also very immersive as to improve a Vive or Rift experience? I have come up with three pairs, the Philips Fidelio X2's, the AKG K7XX's and the Beyerdynamic DT990 Premium's. What do y'all think?

I absolutely love my HD600 paired with the Mixamp pro TR AND the Magni 2 Uber. It is an unusual recommendation for gaming, but I can hear so much stuff while gaming that it is almost overwhelming. I also own the Valhalla 2 and even though the magni 2 uber can't hold against it, it gets way too noisy because of the double amping when connected to the mixamp pro TR.
I have tried the DT990 250ohm version and even though it sounds very good and have a wider soundstage, it simply doesnt match the immersion and fidelity I get from the HD600. During my llast year´s vacation of 15 days I kept trying to understand how people keep putting the DT990 in the same category of the HD600. For me, even though the DT990 are excellent, the HD600 is in a whole different category.
I am always impressed with the way the HD600 changes with EQ. The Mixamp pro EQ makes it sound like a different headphone with slight changes.

The X2's have the widest sound stage out of any of those cans, they're also pretty heavy headphones, weighing almost a pound added to the VR headset. I have K712's, which are essentially better K7XX's. They're great but im not sure how well they'd work sitting on top of a a VR headset.

I have a pair of X2s that would be my choice just because they are such a great sounding headphone and easy to drive. I have also got the k702 and although still quite good for gaming just not enough bass for it the 7xx will be different though.
