Drops used to show the shipping cost to Canada. Now no shipping cost is visible. Have I changed one of my settings? The shipping cost is always a consideration when making a purchase and comparing local sale prices (with no shipping). What do I need to do to make the shipping cost visible again? Or, is shipping now included in the cost of the item?

RobertJBHi Robert, You can still access the shipping cost of every drop by clicking on "join drop" or "commit" on the drop page. You'll be taken to the checkout page where you can select options, add-ons, payment, shipping address and see the total shipping cost. The checkout page is essentially like our cart, so if you choose not to continue with the checkout, you can just leave the page.
We'll be working to make the checkout experience better and we appreciate all the feedback we've gotten so far on this change.

erikbroerikbro, many thanks for the reply. When I follow your advice and click on 'join drop' just to check the price, I find I'm now in the top of the Massdrop sales funnel and slated to receive emails prompting me to complete the sale. I don't know about other people, but knowing that by checking the price I will trip a wire that is going to result in more emails is likely to cause me to hesitate even looking. I really would prefer having the total price + shipping visible when I'm first considering the product (as before). Forcing me to go to checkout to hear the bad news doesn't work with me. Since so many sites do it, it may just be me.

RobertJBThanks for taking the time to give us thoughtful feedback on this. I understand that you and others feel having shipping price on the drop page, instead of only on the checkout page, is a useful thing when you're trying to decide whether or not you want to go through the process of joining or committing to a drop. We've received a lot of feedback on this, and will continue to work to improve the checkout experience to give members the most accurate information when they need it.
One of the reasons we made this change is because we're planning to make a number of improvements to the checkout and shipping experience and having everything that may impact shipping in one place will allow us to make changes much more quickly. A few of the things we're looking at include: improved mobile checkout, variable shipping speeds, order quantity effects, shipping destination, temporary cart w/ shipping, dependent on order type and quantity. drop credits and more.
While we work on these changes, you can turn off all reminder emails you're getting from the checkout page by going to your email settings page and unchecking "Cart Reminder". You can find your email settings by clicking on your profile picture, selecting settings and then selecting email settings from the left hand menu.
I'm sorry this feature change has caused you frustration when using the site. Our team is committed to creating the best experience for our users, and we'll certainly be considering your feedback as we continue to consider this feature and future changes to drop and checkout.

erikbroI appreciate the goal of Massdrop is to seek out competitive products and pricing, and pass those along to your membership. However, the greater part of your mission is front end savings. While I appreciate your quest to address back end issues, in the instant case of shipping, the use of courier services like DHL does not complete the overall result of Massdrop's corporate identity. In order to accomplish this, you must be transparent and inform your clients the intended shipping method by identifying the carrier BEFORE a purchase is made. This way we/I have the opportunity to derive the most cost effective result. In my last 8 transactions, 5 were shipped by DHL (with one purchase pending). This represents a hidden cost of $50 for the automatic fee DHL applies to process duties and taxes. In addition, every DHL shipment exposes me to the payment of duties and taxes. Now I am not suggesting I am trying to evade paying duties and taxes, as I would and do when and if required, but this takes away the right of choice for Canadian Customs to apply same at their discretion. In short, DHL is making the choice for them! I am sure you understand and no doubt like yourself, we are all value conscious consumers with the expectation of deriving the best deal possible for the TOTAL purchase, especially when these costs represent a significant portion of the total price. Therefore the bottom line is that unless I know beforehand which carrier is handling my shipment, I will be forced to make my purchases elsewhere. I cannot with the roll of the dice make a purchase decision when Massdrop may or may not use a carrier like DHL and find myself paying hidden costs without Massdrop identifying who it will be. Unfortunately this will certainly drive me and like minded international clients away from your business due to your lack of transparency.

erikbroLet's call a spade a spade and say it like it is. You removed the shipping cost because you were tired of people saying it was cheaper or same price on amazon(or wherever) when you incorporate the cost of massdrop shipping. And as we all know people will almost always choose the merchant with the faster shipping(most definitely not going to be MD) when price is the the same.

FuhriousFaster shipping is one thing but an important component of a purchase. However, when the shipping cost represents 30, 35, 40% or more of the retail price, one has to ask the qusetion, is this really worth it? Massdrop needs to expore these issues immediately in order to remain competitive in the marketplace!
