I posted this elsewhere - but this is probably a more appropriate area.
How about a Fishing community? Potential to reach a very wide user base.

One piece rods aren't practical to post, but multi-piece fly rods and travel rods are no problem. Other essentials - reels, line, lures, etc. are small and easy to post. There is also a wide range of electronice - GPS, Sounders, EPIRBs/PLBs, Marine Radios, etc. etc. etc. Tackle storage systems. Apparel. Scents. Tools. The list goes on and on (and on...) The pic. is a part of my lure collection - just my bream lures! #Tacklejunkiesoftheworldunite!

Spork13Thanks for the suggestion. Fishing is something that is being considered under the Outdoors Community, which is launching shortly. But it could also be it's own stand-alone community as there isn't a ton of crossover with backpacking, tenkara rods being the notable exception.

DannyMilksThats great to hear Danny. There is some crossover between fishing and general outdoors, so seems a natural place to start. If fishing gear takes off I guess it could then be considered for it's own community.

DannyMilksThere are plenty of fly rods that break up into several pieces that can be put in or strapped to a backpack. Don't limit the scope to tenkara rods.
For example: http://sportsmansequipment.com/2016/08/09/tailwater-outfitters-toccoa-fly-rod-fast-action-9-4-piece-im8-graphite-with-rod-tube-5-weight/

DannyMilks Would there be a separation between things like take-down rods and small reels made for backpacking, and their larger counterparts that are solid. For example keeping the take-downs with Outdoors and linking it with backpacking/hiking.

HeeftyThat's a good point @Heefty. Tenkara rods may be the most popular not, but they certainly aren't the only style that could be taken backpacking.

questioningcharacter42That's what I'm thinking. There is going to be some products that are right in the middle and have cross-over appeal, but the idea would be to keep the lighter, portable rods in Outdoors and Ultralight, and the more conventional gear in a Fishing Community (that is, of course, if we decide to start one sometime down the road).

DannyMilksLots of guys here (Tassie) walk for miles (and miles and miles) carrying fly fishing gear (most fly rods are3 or 4 piece) or light spin gear.

DannyMilksWould you supply things like tackle and similar items or would it be just the rods and reels available?

IntriguedConsumer44I'd like to see tackle included. Here in Aus. decent small (trout or bream size) lures often retail for $15 - #30 each. Large (ie: game fishing) lures can cost a lot more. Braided line and flurocarbon leader are also high-cost items that are small and light and cheap to post. For lure tragics like me who use a lot of hard body lures the cost of our tackle can easilly equal the cost of several good rods and reels., and where as rods and reels usually last many years, lures, line and leaders need replacing frequently.
