What ya'll think?

Has anyone taken apart a Bestech yet, just to check it out, see how well they are made, ect. A friend I correspond with has a Kendo, anyway he took it apart and this is what he said he found. The bearings were plastic. The clip screws would not snug down, he swears as a mechanic he knows the value of not overtightening, as though they were stripped. He put the clip back on with some type of super glue gel as threadlocker and it has stayed put. I know I think they (Bestech) are the best value out there. I really don't know about ease or unease of sharpening because both that I own came plenty sharp from the factory. I think I will sit down and put an ultra razors edge on one today just to see if there are any pros orncons on that end. Hit me back, guys. oh and uh, gals. sorry

I was led to believe that the under $50 knives were made in China but the high end, more expensive knives are made here in the USA. Can anyone verify this for me?

I had very similar problems with the screws, as well as a problematic grind, and a burnt edge on some of the earliest bestechs that I bought. All of my more recent ones have been pretty much entirely free of issues. I can 100% vouch for the higher end models, $90 and up, I have had no problems whatsoever in my multiple disassembles of those, despite one or two of them being very very early runs. I only have one recent example of the budget line, but as I mentioned, I didn't have any problems with it either.

SlickabI convexed my Hornet on a WSKO model and had no trouble. Correct me if I am wrong, but most will classify D2 as very tough. Altho it is hardenable to HRC 62, I can't recall having seen any knives with it in that range. From what I have read, custom makers will often push their steels toward the maximum.. And at 62, I would certainly agree with you that D2 is a hard steel. I found one comment in a forum where the poster tested a CPM D2 Spydie at 62.

I took apart my goblin and everything looked good to me. I'm not sure what you're asking, you talked about your friend's experience which wasn't about sharpening, then asked about sharpening? Also, are you worried that sharpening will mess it up? If not, then just go for it. Not sure what con there would be to that.

Oh well, made in China anyway. They sure are pretty knives though.

I need to know what kind of steel your blade is made of before I can further advise.
