Kershaw Copper Natrix - Discussion

more_vert
Anyone else received theirs yet? Thoughts? Impressions? Firstly, it’s a beautiful piece of work. Some are bemoaning the finish as though they were expecting a Polished Copper finish. It was obvious from the preproduction units that that was not going to be the case. I REALLY like the smooth stonewashed look that they chose and am very glad they DIDN’t go with the lined pattern that the early units had. Like some, I’m finding the detent way too aggressive to the point that I virtually can’t deploy it one handed. Loosening the pivot does nothing but de-center the blade and is no help in flipping it. Anyone have a suggestion? I’m thinking I’m going to have to disassemble it and gently straighten the lockbar a bit. I love the size. I prefer small knives and it’s right in the middle size-wise in my collection. Hefty (Copper, of course). But when open it is well balanced. Many will appreciate the deep-carry clip. Looking forward to the patina that will develop.

I think the biggest mistake Kershaw did was downsizing the knife and using the exact same design as its bigger brother, the regular Natrix. The lockbar is way too wide, making it too hard to flip it open. Besides, the tab on the lockbar to unlock is so thin that it is nearly non-existent. As the flipping gets easier and snappier, the lockbar sits deeper on the base of the knife, making it nearly impossible to close the knife with one hand. It's also dangerous because if you apply too much pressure with your thumb on the lockbar, and manage to slip your thumb while unlocking it (it happened several times with me), you may cut yourself badly because your other finger is already pushing the blade down. Luckily I haven't cut myself, but I'm not taking chances now. I've been mostly positive about this knife, I waited too long for it to dismiss it right away. But my love for it is wearing really fast at this point...

Ok, this is weird…I reported a few days ago (below) about the overly strong detent/lockbar. Today I took the clip off, and what do you know? Now it’s easier to deploy with the flipper. 🤯 Now I have to go back and retighten the pivot and center the blade again because it’s too loose now. What’s up with that? 🤔

This is probably a silly question but is it possible that your pressing on the lockbar while you’re trying to flip it?

I've had the same problem with mine. It won't flip well and when I loosen the pivot to make it flip the blade goes off center. I'm returning it.

Yes, the detent is a little heavy for a knife this small. I’ve discovered a position in my hand where it is easier to flip, although I’m terrible with descriptions. I’ll try though. Hold the butt of the handle against the meat of your palm with your thumb just to the right of and slightly below the pivot. Rest your ring finger and middle finger on the pocket clip, being careful not to put any pressure on the lockbar. Arching your index fingertip completely on top of the flipper tab, use a medium amount of quick pressure to flip it open. Told you I’m not good at descriptions, but when I showed my wife how to open it she was successful several times in a row. It’somewhat awkward the first few times but then becomes natural.
