Help Needed Please
Ho. I'm new to the watch community and I'm looking for a nice mechanical everyday field watch. Little background on me. I'm in the military and currently work on ships so I'm looking for some things that can withstand the day to day job. I already have a few g shocks but I'm looking for something new and more exciting. I'd love any an all suggestions. I've been looking some mechanical, sappire crystal and between 38mm and 44mm. Thanks so much in advance ! Trying to stay under 350$

Check out the Maratac XR-35 from Country Comm. A few Maratac watches turn up on here too if you can wait.

I would suggest the Victorinox or Tissot lines if you want Swiss & relatively easy to find, Sector is another good one that not too expensive, some of their watches are Swiss made. I have a beater Sector that I wear in my workshop - it's seen grinding, welding & general metal fabrication and it still looks perfect.
Otherwise Orient is nice and affordable and there are plenty of niche brands at that price point that sell direct (edit - echoing others, apparently....). Also look at Maranez, which makes really unique brass cased automatics with sapphire crystals. Might not be your thing, you can always polish it... on second though, maybe you do enough of that already ;-) AFAIK, they make a steel version.
You can also look at second-hand watches. I have a couple of nice '80s vintage Omegas that were relatively cheap, although older watches will be smaller and generally don't have sapphire crystals. Depending on where you deploy, you might be able to find good second hand watches overseas.
Finally, you can get watches customized. A cheaper Seiko diver can be retrofitted with a sapphire crystal, better lume and new hands, making for a completely unique watch. @psulick3 has a really nice example here https://www.massdrop.com/talk/12653/wrist-check/2279148 (was wrong ref, now fixed)

I've had the SNZGJ1 (J stands for Japan, K for Malaysia) since March this year and I really like it! It's a bit on the heavy side compared to my G Shock (humble G001), but has Day/Date, 24 hour markers, good lume, scratch resistant glass, and approximately a 36 hour power reserve.

I second @sistem_32 recommendation if you are in the market for a field watch , and I have a lightly used Hamilton for sale that is still under manufacturer's warranty if you're interested.
Other question I would ask is what is your budget? Going to be tough to beat a G-Shock in terms of practicality and bang for your buck.
Another brand I would look in to is MK II - they produce some interesting stuff and have a great looking field watch available. I've never owned any of their stuff so I cannot vouch for it personally but they are very well regarded on the forums and watch blogs.

I bought a Glycine GL0187 and got it about a week ago.
The dial in the picture of the Glycine GL0187 on drop.com is black. The dial on the one i received looks 2/3 faded greyish and the bottom more black. I know it's not, but the dial has the water damaged look. It's not nice and pretty anoying. Any comments?

Completely surprised by the lack of blade diversity here on Drop...
I’ve been a collector of Blades since before my teens, and a retailer coming up on 15… or maybe 20 years. Drop has really been kind of an interesting experience for me, because I do occasionally get to see some unusual tech and sometimes EDC items that otherwise I might not have been aware of. And maybe it’s because I have a deep love of cutlery and bladed weapons, but I find myself trolling through the site looking at it what’s available; and it’s just it’s pretty much the same. And the bladed community here is just always confused me.. every single knife is about the same, they’re almost all drop points and although the handle materials change and brands change.. it’s really just the same knife over and over and over again... occasionally you’ll see a tanto or a slight variant; but rarely… and almost never a serrated blade. Would be nice to see some Sony E mount full frame cameras on here. I currently shoot with a A99 and they killed the lense path for better or more option lenses and now is all E-Mount. 🤔
