Amp and dac recommendation for Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250 Ohm?

more_vert
Hello.
I'd like to know if somebody around here uses said headphones and could recommend an amp and a dac to use with it. I flirted with the idea of getting the Schiit Magni 2 Uber and Modi 2 Uber, but from reading in several forums, it seems that they are not as good as some reviews claim.
Many thanks in advance!

I have the 32 ohm version and it sounds very good with the IFI Hip dac. Because the headphone had a bright sound signature, it pairs well with the Hip Dac warm sound.

The best streaming that I have experienced is Tidal through an MQA dac, like a dragonfly. Now, for me, streaming is worth listening too. Apple reduces for. 96khz to 48, or 41 so you need an external mqa dac

How does it sounds with the audio engine V2 dragonfly red ?
Sadly the answer to this, like a lot of audio questions is... it depends. I don't own the 770 Pro but I do still own the 990 pro (sensitivity and impedance are the same). I've powered them with the following devices: 1) FiiO E9 2) Massdrop O2 3) FiiO E11 4) FiiO E12A 5) Schiit Lyr 6) Gustard H10 7)LG V20 8)Audioquest Dragonfly 1.2
All of them have sufficient power for these headphones to reach reasonable volume. I honestly couldn't tell you which I prefer as I'm not a huge fan of the 990 pro (was my 3rd of now 29 pairs). The Magni 2 U has a ton of flexibility if you decide to further your headphone collection (from sensitive IEM's to planars, not the HE-6). If you like the Beyer Spike (treble boost, common to their "house sound") then I think you will be just fine going the Schiit Route. If the treble sometimes bothers you, a slightly warmer source may be appropriate (Asgard or other non-schiit). I had a buddy recently go through every source/amp I have with his HD6XX trying to find what is "right" for him. His price to performance winner was the dragonfly but he certainly could tell improvements with my higher priced gear. The difference just wasn't worth the price to him. It is most certainly worth the price to me. That is the main point of my post, find something with a good return policy or you can resell easily. No two ears are the same and everyone puts different values on audio performance increases.
