An update on my setup. I am using an Aune X1S DAC/AMP which outputs from my desktop using optical(USB has hiss). The Aune outputs the signal to a 4 channel mixer. The mixer also receive signal from a bluetooth receiver and other audio sources. The mixer's main output goes to a schiit magni 3 and the control output goes to a set of JBL LSR305 bookshelf speaker. If I want the lowest noise and best fidelity, then I plug headphones into the Aune. If I want to listen to other sources or with different things mixed in(ie Game and audio book from my phone), then I can use the schiit or the bookshelf speaker. Since the main and control output from the mixer uses 2 different controls, I can control their volume separately.

Only use RCA to speaker is the speaker is active (ie, has an amp built into it). The preferred method for best sound quality is to use a quality Class A, Class A/B, or a HIGH END Class D speaker amp and connect to passive speakers using the traditional speaker wire method. If the DAC has more than one digital input it will allow you switch between them. Speakers in that price range are junk. Emotiva and Chane have some low-end speakers that are probably as good as you can get at that price range (beware though Emotiva amps are bad).
$300 will only buy you bad sound quality. It will certainly be better than a $40 Logitech speaker system, but such a system would be strictly lo-fi.

2) Depends on the particular unit
3) Switches will most probably produce pops and such unwanted sounds even if you assume they work all the time (which they don't)
4) Edifier's are ok
5) I highly recommend O2/ODAC rev B. as DAC and amp and JBL LSR305s for speakers

Looking for a gaming/content audio setup
Hello! I'm looking for recommendations on audio setups. I'd be planning on using it mostly for gaming. Preferably I'd like a pair of large closed back headphones since I have a big head and jaw. I'd also like to hear myself through my mic with mic monitoring. As far as budget goes, I don't really have one. But under 600$ would be nice. I can go higher if needed. The audio setup would be connected to a high performance PC. Thank you in advance for any recommendations!

What would be a good portable Dac/Amp to use with my HD6xx and Sony Xperia 1 V cell phone?
I am new to this hobby. I purchased a HD6XX and plan to use it with my Sony Xperia 1 V cell phone, that has a 3.5mm jack. I was wondering if I needed a portable dac/amp or just a portable amp and if so what would one recommend? Any assistance one could provide, would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Haz

Invest in Balancing my HD6xx headphones?
Hi... I'm a songwriter/producer. I have Drop Senn HD6xx HPs. I just bought a Topping L30 II SE HP amp to enhance my monitoring. It honestly sounds pretty good. The audio interface I'm using (an Audient iD22) has balanced outs. For those of you who've listened to the HD6xx using balanced amps and cables, do you think I should invest in that kind of setup to take advantage of the Senns potential?

Should I exchange the PC38X for better headphones?
I bought the PC38X headphones FOR GAMING and they are great, but I have NO use for a Microphone since I don't do competitive gaming and I was wondering if there were better headphone options at a similar price without a headphone, where (presumably) more of the cost was put into making it sound better. I also find that my PC38X don't get quite as loud as I would like and I was wondering if a cheap amp like the iFi Go link would draw a little more volume out of my phones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BN6MM822?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I went with the PC38X since it was considered the best bang for buck headphones. Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.

I have a few questions regarding applies to DAC/AMP in general.
1) Does RCA cable lower sound quality to speaker?
2) If you plug in headphone, does it automatically switch the audio output from RCA to headphone jack?
3) Is there a DAC/AMP that can take in two different wired digital source (1 from desktop and 1 from laptop) as well as Bluetooth and is able to freely switch between the 3 sources? If not, would using USB KVM switch work well?
4) How does ~$150-$200 speaker (like the Edifier R200DB) compared to the Sound Blaster X Katana?
I am interested in using a DAC/AMP combo to be used for speaker and headphones for my laptop and desktop. Recommendations for DAC/AMP and speakers combination set would be appreciated. Looking for ~$300 total and something that will not take up a lot of space on desk.
