Instead of v5i, I am using V6 vivid. Also, I am pairing my A30 with D50 and to me, that's a killer combination.

ghostieCool, does it fit in the chassis without modification? I didn't even consider those. Now I'm curious based on my experience with the v5i's.

I won't say you need a mod for this but the V6 will not fit vertically. You have to lay them down horizontal. This would mean you will have to do a pin-to-pin wired connection from the A30 socket to the V6 pin. You can do something like in this picture. This is for Cambridge Audio but it is exactly what I have done.

ghostieHello ghostie can you tell me where I can find the pin to pin wires? Thank you!

MiahI ordered the 35mm extension leads from Burson when I bought my V6 from them. But the wires on the ones they sold was brittle and the joints came off too easily. In the end, I removed the stock wire and resolder better wires.

The best is to get 2 of the dip 8 socket and solder the wires on to them. Here's a pic.

ghostieI was looking at the V6's yesterday and wow, $130 bucks for a pair for the A30 is a tall order. The V5i's were a MASSIVE improvement in the A30 but only a moderate improvement to the FX Audio DAC X6. I'm wondering how big an improvement they would be over the V5i. It's just a lot to drop into a $100 amp. But then again, I guess so was the $80 I've already spent. This is a ridiculous hobby, but fun. Have you directly compared the V5i and V6 in the A30?

CaseyODThe V6s are all rounder improvement but definitely not a night and day. I have both v5i and v6s so I have plenty of time rolling in. The obvious plus point of V6s is fuller musical presentation without the graininess. The v5i has a tat bit more graininess when you push the volume up too high. At low volume, both sounded almost similar. I think it really comes down to what headphones you drive. Hifiman 400x, you probably won't notice any diff. But if you are drive the HD600, then the difference would be obvious.

ghostieThanks! That pretty much seals the deal for me. I'm happy with the Topping as it is and with the Emotiva and THX am pretty set for amps. I'll use that $130 bucks towards a little tube amp or new set of headphones. I've been curious about the M1060C's. Cheers!

ghostieOh, one other thing. Did you have the D30 previously? I've had my eye on the D50 because it looks really good on paper. I'm just wondering if it's worth the upgrade from the D30.

CaseyODI don't own a D30 but like you, i went with D50 because it is one of the most accurate and value for money desktop DAC available. My philosophy is you get the most linear and accurate DAC and let your amp/ headphone be tuned to your liking.
