I've been debating the PXC550 vs. MDR100X vs Audio-Technicas new BT Headphones... never took much to the Bose sound, ergonomics or aesthetics. If ANC is your primary aim the Bose are still king of the heap as far as I'm concerned. With LDAC coming in future Android versions I am leaning towards the Sony. Bluetooth with AptX gets you slightly above 320kbps mp3 quality Bluetooth with AptX HD (very limited options here but my V20 has it and the new Audio-Technicas do as well) gets you roughly CD quality or a little lower Bluetooth with LDAC is claiming high res capability and can certainly produce CD quality sound.

ElectronicVicesI use a Sony Walkman, NW style and a Galaxy S8+ for my music. I am more concerned with sound over ANC, but at this price point I'd like to think I can have high quality of both. That being said I think I'd probably lean to the Sony since it would play nicely with my Walkman. I've also heard that the Sony's beat out the sennheisers for sound, however I'm more inclined to believe that it's a more subjective taste, than an objective observation .

Dream.eXeI think the sound quality of the Senn vs Sony will come down to preference. I don't have head time with them but based on the stupid number of reviews I've looked at for them the Senn vs Sony breaksdown like this: 1) Like a slightly more agressive upper mid/lower treble go Seen 2) Want a little more relaxed sound that still has good detail go Sony.
As I sometimes wear glasses when I use headphones I also like the self-calibrating nature of the Sony's but I worry they might be a little laid back for me. I've shifted slightly in my sound preferences and if the Senn isn't too aggressive in the aforementioned range I think I may like it better. I like the looks of the Senn a touch better. The AT headphones are too new for me to find a solid sample of reviews from reviewers I am familiar with but already having AptX HD vs waiting for LDAC on my V20 is mildly appealing.

ElectronicVicesThese AT's you're referring to are the DSR9BT? Or DSR7BT? In regards to sound taste, I find it hard to get the opportunity to try out the higher end headphones since I think that's the best way to make a decision, but Im unsure as to what my preferences are exactly . I prefer a good range centered around neutral, with no, as you put it, aggressive highs or lows. You wouldn't happened to have heard anything regarding soundstage on then have you?

Dream.eXeYep and both models are AptX HD as far as am I aware. They are currently limited in supply and as such are going above MSRP stateside. All of these headphones from what I've read have a bit of extra bass but that tends to help in noisy environments. By aggressive I mean a slight rise in the 1-3khz range. This is typically the point where people get "up front" aka rise in this region vs. "laid back" aka a dip or downward slope. The response varies a bit in different modes:

ElectronicVicesWell said, thanks for the links. I agree with what you mentioned about the Senn’s v. Sony’s. I have found that the Sony’s bass is a bit much and probably has a lot to do with their target marked audience. I will add their ANC seems to actually be better than the Bose from when i compare side to side in an urban environment to the loca coffee shop. You made some excellent observations and points and I just wanted to say kudos to you for the effort and energy explaining it though and adding the links for further investigation.
