For a long time I kept going back to my F1.8 85mm Canon EF. It is really good portrait lens. And smaller than most of my other lenses, so great for street photography. Then I made the mistake of getting a macro lens. The Canon F2.8 100MM L series. Which is a bit long and tele, but which can focus on anything from the tip of your nose to infinity. So that opened up a whole new world of macro street photography. Even without the macro feature, that lens is just staggering. So much detail, so much contrast and color. It's perfect. But due to it's size I am already scouting around for a more compact macro.

Makes sense! Never tried an 85 for street photography but I like the idea that you could crowd the frame a bit more to make an interesting image. The nice thing is the size of the 85 doesn't seem much larger on camera than a 50mm prime, for example, in terms of remaining somewhat stealthy.
Tylerthe 85mm also has this cool property (on full frame at least) that it flatters faces. Slightly elongating, and if shot wide open usually the sides of the face will roll off into the bokeh. Looks great on women, but also really nice on a weathered old guy too.

I would say that the lens I use the most often is the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-40mm F2.8. It offers great flexibility with a very nice aperture (low and constant through the focal range). When I first got this lens, I thought it was huge for a m4/3. But compared to the 40-150 F2.8 it is compact. The ”M.ZUIKO PREMIUM” primes are a great value if you are looking for a F1.8 lens, and don’t want to splurge for the “M.ZUIKO PRO” primes. (by the way I tend to prefer the Oly lenses)

I've got an old Nikkor 28mm f/2.8 that I just love! Very sharp despite its age, and practically no distortion. On APS-C it's pretty close to a 35mm equivalent, which is probably the most useful focal length there is IMHO. It's also really tiny, so I often use it when I can't (or don't want to) carry around a big lens.

Panasonic 20mm f1.7 for m4/3rds. Lovely little prime - 40mm equivalent, sharp and fast. I just wish it could auto-focus as quickly as my Olympus 12-40 pro. No matter what, the small 20mm is in my bag and spends a lot of time on body.

My go lens is my 55-200mm Nikon lens. It works GREAT and it gets a good wide angel and has some good zoom!!!

Canon 16-35 f4L IS seems to be the lens I always grab when bringing just one.

When just walking around everyday with a rangefinder, 35mm f2.0 Summicron is my go to. I can crop tighter to focus on one part if necessary, but the whole system is very compact and unobtrusive. When I was shooting Sony a7rIII I used the 35mm f2.8 prime and it too was a small compact setup. Both can go into a large jacket pocket or stow away into a shoulder bag easily.
