Best amp for audio

more_vert
I guess I'm just looking for and amp and something more to match with my ATH-m50x. I'm running it to my computer but I've seen people have it run into and amp and more? Unsure and figured her a and audio sub-reddit would help a little.

I just bought the Fiio e12a for my m50x's and I strictly use my headphones on the go. That being said, the amp greatly increased the sound quality and volume which was needed with those headphones.

You should follow these steps;
1) Buy the best quality pair of headphones you can get. Most of your money should go here. 2) Set your minimal audio materials quality to lossless CD format, which is 44.1kHz /16bits. I strongly recommend a Tidal HIFI sub, cheapest way to access best quality music atm. You get access for MQA catalogue, which contains music up to 96 kHz /24bits. 3) If the volume is low or distorted or you get hiss in the background and you are sure that it is computer related, buy a DAC/amp combo.
I have a pair of M50x as well. You do not need an amp for M50x to feed from the computer. If you think the sound coming from headphone jack is not clear (background hiss or hum etc), then you should look for an external USB DAC/amp combo. If you are on a budget, check out Mayflower O2/ODAC rev B combo unit. If you look for an amp to improve or change the tonality of M50x in some way, please don't. Just look for another pair of headphones. Because what amps and DACs do is to improve the quality of the signal coming to your headphones from your source.

I don't recommend an amp with the m50x unless you really want to but, the schiit magni will power a lot of the headphone out there clean.

You don't need to go overboard on an amp for m50x. Are you looking for a desktop or portable or mobile amp? I guess I could easily recommend the O2 to cover all of those needs. It's a great amp for lower impedance headphones.

I had a pair of m50s awhile back and never really thought they needed an amp they are quite easy to drive. I am not sure how much the m50x will improve with an amp maybe some but tbh I am not sure it would be worth it unless its volume that's the issue?
