Audioquest Nighthawk, because it sounds like butter .... always. I know perfectly well they aren't analytical, but analytical is not what i'm looking for when i want to enjoy listening to pretty much anything. And the comfort is second to none.

nidus123I think the most dangerous pitfall in being an audiophile is listening to your gear and not your music. Sounds like you avoided that here!
nidus123I've had these Headphones myself for about 3years now.. I tried the whole lineup until I ended up in this price-range and these Headphones. I got over 3k Hours playtime on them, and I almost cry of happiness when I listen to music of High-Quality :D Highly Recommended! My next step would be a Fostex TH900.

Untamed_InsanityNext step for me would probably be MrSpeakers Aeon closed ... Or a pair of lcd2c.
nidus123Since we both own Audioquest Nighthawk Headphones, I would be so appreciated if you could keep me posted about your choice, and how they sound/if they are better than the Nighthawks :D <3

Untamed_InsanityI don't necessarily think they are, they are just different and still sound nice. There is no harshness to them whatsoever, sound wise or physically. But sure - when i actually get them (and my wife does not kill me), i'll do a small update.

verifonixToo expensive :) No point of going over 800 if there is so much nice choice down on earth. Sky is the limit, I know. But there is not much tangible difference unless you got bat ears. As in - if it's more than my mortgage payment, no Bueno :)

dcha12Regret selling my Nighthawks because of this. It's velvety/buttery texture was such a joy listening to and I still think they're the most comfortable headphones out there. However, I sold it to a friend so I do have the opportunity to re-hear it once in a while.

dcha12My monk plus' remind me of that everyday. I just love the way music sounds coming from them even though I have other gear that is technically much better.

Untamed_InsanityI got myself an upgraded but used pair of LCD-X and i have not looked back since. I lost some of the "room feel" of the Nighthawks, but the sound is just amazing. Plus my THX 789 arrived as well so i can't really complain on that front either :)

Untamed_InsanityThere is nothing like planar bass
nidus123Which of the current drops would you recommend for some hard hitting, tight bass with crip sound image? :)
nidus123Been drooling over the Fostex TH900&MK2 for ages now.. Or the Massdrop Versions

Untamed_InsanityK7XX, the TR-X00's don't have soundstage. Or you can wait a bit for the Hifiman Edition XX

Untamed_InsanityI'm definitely going to pick up some planars, maybe Mr. Speaker or just Sundaras but will probably be LCD 2x

nidus123I own the NightHawk Carbon and I barely use them just so when I do, I can appreciate their specialness all over again. They are amazing once the brain gets re-programmed to their sound. I disagree with people that say they have a dull top end. I get where they come from, but either they have hearing damage, or they don't give them a chance. They just...like you say...sound like butter. I make my own music and I know my tracks well, and they sound just as I intend my tracks to sound from lows to highs. I've never been more amazed by a pair of headphones...although yeah...they do not sound subjectively impressive on first listen.

Sugar_FreeRight? They cradle the ears so gently. Pads feel like marshmallows! I also love how light and flimsy they feel when putting them on. Such an experience!
