I'll consider these headphones to be in the running: ZMF Eikon, HD 700, HD 6XX, HD 598, HE 4XX, VISO HP50, KPH30i, BT232i, and Reshelled SE 535 (CIEMs). My answer is the KPH30i! I can hear you laughing! But, hear me out. While my favorite based on sound is the Eikon, it's too weighty for six or eight hour listening sessions. Rule the VISO HP50 out for those as well, its headband is ever so slightly uncomfortable and the ear cups far too small. The Senns and HIFIMan headphones all require a headphone amp, rule them out. So, the only 'phones with portability, left over, the HP50 have portability, are the Koss and InEarz reshells! That makes the obvious choice the SE 535, reshelled by InEarz, right? WRONG! While these are great sounding these are irreplaceable. When those wear out, those are gone forever! Now, I'm most likely in the minority. But, I really like the sound of the BT232i. Rule it out! The six and a half hour battery life is not long enough. I would require a 12 hour battery life and rechargeable battery capable of about 12,000 recharge cycles, not gonna happen! That leaves the humble, open, portable, inexpensive, and easily replaced Koss KPH30i. One can listen to with a cell phone or portable amp or desk top amp. Lose 'em and $30 later you're back in business. It's versatile. Listen to 'em all day and all night if you need. It doesn't tell the world that you're an audiophile, a dubious distinction, because we're marked as not knowing the value of a dollar! So there you have it!
