Omega Planet Ocean?

more_vert
I’m planning on getting this exact model (43.5mm) and appreciate if you have any advice or suggestions specially if you already have owned one of these. Price is about $5-6k. My one gripe with it is the 21mm lug width, which means I can use neither of my 22mm quality leather straps!

There is one on r/watchexchange literally right now: https://www.reddit.com/r/Watchexchange/comments/a7n5d9/wts_2750_omega_seamaster_planet_ocean_orange/ I can certainly understand its appeal, it's a handsome watch.

Buy it used on a bracelet and source the rubber strap separately. It'll be cheaper at the get-go and easier to sell if you ever want to, if you have the bracelet. Strap is easy and inexpensive to source later.

Hey Watch Doctor, since some of your comments are that this watch left you unimpressed when seeing it in person, have you decided to head in a different direction? I don't currently have an Omega, but I am considering. Especially now with the in-house movements. Are you specifically looking for a dive-style watch?

ReedGNot quite. I really like and respect the brand Omega, and admire their craftsmanship, their watch making innovations, and really like the double sided AR that renders the crystal almost invisible, however this watch underwhelmed me. My alternatives is Rolex submariner (black bezel) which is truly gorgeous but on the small side for my taste (40mm). So at this point I am still exploring but that’s a good state to be at if you are a watch aficionado.

Hi their WatchDoctor having just read most of the comments below some good / some bad ? ( jealousy perhaps ? ) you never know i'm going to chuck my thoughts in to the mix as well . aaronbieber makes a good case / review on all points by far the best in-depth point of view so far having just bought a Omega Planet Ocean the orange bezel one 45.5 mm one i think it's all down to each person & what watch he / she likes mine is a big watch but i have a large wrist size 8" so it dose not look that big on my wrist i even had to have two links put in . I have dithered on buying this watch for a long while now & have finally bought it New & at a good price £4000.00 down to £3600.00 & two links chucked in for free as these are getting harder to find brand New being a older model ( 2016 ? i think ) with the 8500 movement i know this colour / combination is not everyones cup of tea but i really do like it and after all it's me that's paying / wearing it. This has been a grail watch for me for a long time yes the price is dear but you only live once i say go for it if this is what you want take the leap and treat yourself my friend & bugger what everybody say's or thinks as long as it makes you happy ......... JOB DONE

I have the black dial/gray bezel chronometer version (I think it's the previous year's design from this one), and it is one of my top favorite watches. My thoughts in general:
  • This thing is HEAVY. It took me quite a while to get used to it, though I ended up liking the heft of it in the end. It is also very tall and might not fit under some cuffs.
  • The movement is awesome. The calibre 9300 is tight, accurate, and all controls feels as solid as you expect from a watch at this level. I have both the PO chrono and the Speedy Dark Side of the Moon (same movement), the crown is solid as a rock and chrono buttons feel great.
  • Personally I actually like the orange, and my Speedy has a similar synthetic band (I'm wearing it right now), and it is very comfortable. That said, this is a bit of an audacious design, so if this is a centerpiece of your collection consider whether you wouldn't want your nicest watch to be a bit more general-purpose in style. Nevertheless, orange is my second favorite color so I would go for it.
For my money, Omega makes close to the best value-for-dollar in the luxury space. The calibre 9300 is truly innovative and performs exceptionally, build quality is on par with much more expensive brands, and for $5k (or even less on the gray market, which is where I bought both of mine), it's a great value. What others are saying about Omega's depreciation is true, which is why I wouldn't pay AD prices for these things, but I still do think they're fantastic timepieces and worth what you are willing to spend for them.

aaronbieberThanks for great and detailed response. Can you explain more about the grey market option? Is there a specific retailer you’d recommend based on personal experience?

No offense, but why get the ugly Nascar looking version. It looks like a cheap Tissot. Get a more timeless model, you'll be happy you did years from now.

I wouldn’t buy it unless I got atleast 30% off. Omega lose a good chunk once used, and I be concerned about not loving it and losing a bunch flipping.
