Posing a possible Massdrop/Schiit Audio collaboration

more_vert
Hi all, First time poster here. I just ordered a set of the Massdrop HD 6XX and I'm dying to try them out. As I don't have any real audiophile quality gear to push them with, I also ordered a FiiO Q1 Mark II portable headphone amp/DAC to use with my iPhone 8 Plus. As I understand the HD 6XX to be on the far end of what the Q1 will push, I have a set of balanced cables coming too. Now I'm busy looking at ways to exploit my current catalog of CD's, vinyl and some computer-based audio and I keep hearing about Schiit Audio and the amazing things they are doing at good prices. Wouldn't it be awesome to see a Massdrop/Schiit Audio collaboration on either an existing product or, better yet, something else entirely? My ideal gadget would be a cross between the Schiit Audio Magni 3, the Modi 3 and an additional phono preamp stage. Keeping it at or under $200 and I think they would fly out of the warehouse. Any thoughts?

If you're looking for a deal on Schiit gear, be sure to check out their B-Stock section. Aside from going used, it's probably your only chance to get any kind of discount. After trying several different brands, I've ultimately ended up going with mostly Schiit gear for my main headphone setups. I've gotten all of my stuff (Magni 2U, Modi 2U, Valhalla 2 & Jot) as b-stock, and if there was a flaw in any of them, I sure couldn't find it.

I'd recommend trying the Aune X1S and then add an X7S to the stack when money/desire presents. The DAC section is superior in my opinion, and the amp isn't a slacker either. The X7S amp is one of my favorites, and you add the balanced option you like. I started out with the Magni/Modi combo, and I still use it from time to time at work or if I need to move a desktop set with me for whatever reason. The Aune "stack" is reserved for my daily use at home, though (along with too many other things), but I think it's a great first option. Then save for tubes.

Schiit no longer has a monopoly on quality low cost gear. The JDS Atom, Liquid Spark, Grace SDAC, OL DAC...all of them are as good, or better than what Schiit is selling in the $99 price bracket.

I’m sorry, but schiit and Massdrop are at odds with each other. The minute Massdrop got into the dac/amp gain, it ate into schiit’s market of “quality, low cost.” I would place a genuine wager on it never happening at all.

Schiit will never do a Massdrop collaboration. http://www.schiit.com/about/about/on-deals
