CTRL Keyboard backlight blinking

more_vert
Hi, I received my CTRL Keyboard today and I found the backlight is randomly blinking. Is it normal? Does anyone have the same issue?

I've noticed that my LEDs are changing in brightness just a little and then going back to normal. It's not enough to where the LEDs turn off like the video above but there is that noticeable change in the LEDs as i'm typing that causes a bit of a distraction. Also for what it's worth I run a Macbook Pro with a USB 3.0 Docking station. They keyboard is plugged into that. I had another LED Keyboard before this one with simple Red LEDs and that had no issues. It's also not all the time.

ElevateDid you get this resolved? My CTRL arrived today, and it's doing the same thing.

Does that also happen when you reduce the brightness of the LEDs? (fn + S) Have you tried it with other USB ports / USB hubs?

jxliuReducing the brightness on my keyboard resolves the issue until reboot. It's only on some USB hubs, too. Very annoying.

Cjnolentl;dr: USB 1.1 port does not a happy keyboard make My KVM switch -- replete with plenty of USB 3 ports -- has a special USB 1.1 port for the keyboard. While you can use a different port and still type, you can't trigger the hotkey the KVM's looking for. As an aside, I had an old VGA KVM switch that didn't need a special port, so... What gives, 2023? I thought to myself, "Self, just plug your keyboard in there..." The keyboard's back light was flashing so fast it should have displayed a warning to the photo-sensitive. As such, it's likely the 2.5 watts max a bog-standard USB 1.1 port provides is insufficient to power the keyboard. For comparison, a bog-standard USB 3.0 port provides 4.5 watts max. Given my CTRL only has USB C ports, it's a good bet the designers thought that a fair assumption. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#Power
