I use a few different types of bags depending on the day and what I anticipate I'll be doing. If it's a light day or I have a casual appointment, I'll throw my tablet and a notebook in a sling with writing implements, a charging battery, and cables. A heavier day, but not work relateds, I'll be taking my surface or a 13", so a larger messenger or sling, or a slim brief if it's not casual. For work, I take a messenger or backpack large enough for a 15". I look to have something that I can sling close to my body, so never anything too thick or bulky. And I love to have a handle for carrying, but that's not a deal breaker. I also like for there to be a generous sized section that takes up the majority of the bag. Because of the fact that I switch between bags, I carry an EDC pouch and an EDC roll, depending on what I'm doing that particular day. Each one has a specific loadout, and I can just drop one or both of them in the bag, and have everything that I need. Timbuk2 or STM are good bets, though I've been trying others as they appear on Massdrop. Right now, I'm carrying a Timbuk2 Catapult, a Venque Street Messenger, and a Timbuk2 Commute.
