Sub ~$30 Headphones

more_vert
I don't have a lot of money to spend on tech, so I really pay attention to budget headphones. So thus arises the question: What are y'alls favorite cheap headphones? All of them; wireless headphones, IEMS, whatever. Any past experiences or stories? Right now I am using the Mpow H7s and a pair of MEE Audio M6 2nd Generations I got from the recent Blue Box. I have had a good experience with both so far. Right now I am looking for a pair of wireless earbuds within the $15-$25 price range. My main wants are decent audio quality, preferably at least IPX5 rated, ~8+ hour battery life, and preferably noise-cancellation. So what are your thoughts? Doesn't have to be wireless earbuds. That's just my personal question.
[UPDATE:] I have purchased a pair of Anker SoundBuds Curve. So far, it seems pretty good. Initial thoughts:
  • Sound quality is decent. The aptX should have helped with that. The bass is strong, but can also be tuned down with an equalizer for more balanced sound.
  • These things are very comfortable. They come with FIVE sizes of silicon earbud tips PLUS a pair of memory foam tips and 3 sizes of ear wings. For me, the large wings + memory foam tips are working very well. These things sit lightly on your ear (rather than crammed all the way in) and still isolate sound very well.
  • Range is meh. These cannot get too far from your audio source, unlike my Mpow H7s, which can play without trouble even on different floors. But for these, best to keep them within 10 feet or less of your phone or computer.
  • I have had a couple hiccups with the connection. Will update with more info.
  • Battery life is rated at 12.5 hours of play time; will update on how I feel they actually stack up. They did come nearly fully charged out of the box though - that was not necessary but very convenient anyways.

I really like the KZ BTE I just got, they have all of the features you're looking for besides noise cancellation. I don't find noise cancellation to be very good on cheap head phone or on earbuds in general so I'd prefer not to have it in the first place. Everything else about these are stellar for the price, especially the balanced armature driver. This companies other wired buds get a lot of positive reviews as well. They use a good chip from Qualcomm, it connects quickly and supports good codecs for android and apple, and gets good battery life. They're comfortable too.

Corsair HS50   - Good balanced sound even competing with headsets twice the price. Very budget friendly. Best headset I've tried under $50. Cables not braided or replaceable. Plastic build is solid but far from premium. Ear cups may get slightly warm over extended periods.

TechNinjaHDOther than the warm ear cups, would you say they are easy to wear for extended periods of time? Do the ear cups cushion very well?

The Koss KPH30i and Massdrop Edition Koss Porta Pros have great reviews. I own both and I love them. They are comfortable, cheap, and sound good (bass is punchy). Getting a pair of VE Monk Plus earbuds soon, I will try and remember to give you an update on how they sound.

I've been really impressed with the Phaiser BHS-730 & 750. Very good for the price. If you catch a lightning deal on Amazon they can be had in the $20s, but even at the regular price they're quite worth it, and at least in sight of your budget. The Koss Porta Pro and KSC 75 are also budget champs, if you are looking for a change of pace from IEMs.

The wings are part of the tip, not the headphone itself, so they come off. I use foam tips on mine, have never been a fan of the wing style tips.

GunsOfBrixtonAh I see. I would like the option to have wingtips on or off with my earbuds though...
