Portable friendly open back headphones?

more_vert
I used to have a pair of HD 558s I'd wear while making breakfast, cleaning, walking at night, etc. Gave them to a family member who wanted some nice headphones, but no money. So Ive been missing having a pair like that. I want to try a new company though. The music I listen to is varied, but I enjoy really balanced sound signatures. Nothing overpowering anything else. I'd say highest I'd spend is $200, but really prefer to stay within $100-150.

Critical50If it's the Hifiman HE-4XX, don't. They're terrible without outside amplification (require you to carry around another portable amp). That being said, if you do plan on using a portable amp, go ahead. My recommendation goes to the Sennheiser HD 599. They actually don't leak out much sound at all, and has the Sennheiser sound signature that you'd be familiar with. It's at the upper end of your price point though.
