French umbrella

more_vert
A French umbrella maker to add to your list of makers. (Moved from Fox Umbrella discussion) Carbon fiber or wood shafts with cabon fiber stretchers and ribs custom from a 4th generation maker in Poitiers France. They do double canopies (nice inside fabric that can contrast the canopy) or rattan "shepherds (Berger)" umbrellas with huge canopies and rattan stretchers. You can also choose your fabric from about 40 different styles. They even ship to the US and UK and speak/read English. They even made a very nice umbrella for me out of a 19th century walking cane. http://www.parapluie-artisanal.com/collection_parapluie.html The website isn't stellar but their umbrellas are.

It seems our previous thread was deleted. I was wondering if you could tell me which umbrella did you choose and how did you understand the language if it is french?

PurelySmartHello, I generally just let google translate the page for me. It ends up close enough to understand. I have a number of umbrellas from them. I always purchase the carbon fiber rib and runner options (they translate as "whales" in French). I have a Market with a curved maple handle and maple shaft, a Walking Stick with a chestnut handle and maple shaft, and a Market auto open double canopy with a maple handle and a carbon fiber shaft (very nice option). I have woven fabric on each of them, I tend to choose the greys and browns. I can't recall what I paid for each but I don't believe I paid more than 180 Euro for any of them (about the price of the Fox with metal ribs and spreaders). You pretty much can't go wrong with any of the options. They are very kind and helpful as well. The son speaks and writes English so they are easy to work with through email. They ship worldwide and have a huge selection of fabrics.
