Ok here are a couple of photos of some of my collection. Too many to tell stories although they all have one. I will tell you about my 100+ year old South Bend size 18 railroad pocket watch. (actually it is the story of two watches)About 20 years ago my Grandmother (my wife's grandmother to be exact) had a friend named Mr. Glover. He was a retired Sheriff's deputy here in Texas and a great man. Just a super nice gentleman that loved to tell stories and had lived a full life. (He was in his 80's then) Anyway, he was visiting my Granny, as we called her, and I looked at his watch as I do to everyone wearing a watch. He had on a beautiful Bulova Accutron and I began to tell him about his watch, about the tuning fork and other things about Bulova. At the end of our conversation he said just out of the blue, " I am going to will this watch to you". I didn't know what to say so I said OK and I thought well that is nice but didn't think anymore of it than that. Two weeks later while visiting Granny again, she handed me Mr. Glover's accutron and said he wanted me to have it. My first thought was OMG he passed away. Thankfully he was fine, but he told her that he wanted me to have it because he knew that I would appreciate it and take care of it. This was during the Christmas holiday and I had gifted Mr. Glover a shirt for Christmas. It ended up being the wrong size and I exchanged it for him and took it to his house one afternoon. He was happy to get the shirt back, we talked for a few minutes and I was going to leave when he asked me if I would follow him to a back room in his house he had something he wanted to show me. I of course did and he went to a gun safe and opened it. I thought he was going to show me a nice old rifle but he pull out a small wooden box and pulled out of it a black cotton sock. Inside the sock was his father's South Bend railroad Pocket watch that he used while actually working on the railroad. I admired the watch and he handed it to me an told me that he wanted me to have it! I told him that I could not accept it and before I finished my sentence he said "Erik I do not have any sons, and my daughters nor any of my family will appreciate this watch as much as I know you will, so please I would like for you to have it" ! He said "it does not run but it means a lot to me and I want you to have it." I told him I was honored to take it and told him that i would do my best to get his Dad's watch running again. Fast forward a couple of months... I saw Mr. Glover at a coffee shop where he and several of his buddies would drink coffee most mornings. I went in and handed him his father's running watch. He was so proud to see it working again and showed it off to all of his buddies. He told me you see, that is why I gave it to you because I knew you would take care of it! It is one of the most cherished pieces in my collection!

ErikespThank you so much for Sharing the story of Mr. Glover, and his influence. Stories such as this are magnificent reminders of something as "simple" as a watch and a gesture can lend to how we grow..... Lovely collection as well friend.

ErikespThat's an awesome story! These are the things that make collecting so enjoyable, it has nothing to do with the monetary value but the sentimental value - and the passion that goes into the collecting. Thanks for sharing.
