Going from MX Black to another switch without having tried them first?

more_vert
Hi guys, I'm about to buy my second keyboard (the one that I have used for years it's a CM Storm Trigger with MX Black) and I'm looking forward for the new K-Type on Massdrop, I have only one doubt, since I used only and exclusively the MX Black (plus some hours with a KB with MX Blue, which left me with a strange feeling, not that I dind't like it at all, simply strange) and that it is a major purchase I'm wondering, should i try another kind of switch or should i stay with the Kailh version of MX Black? The one that I'm also intersted are the MX Brown and Red, someone who did the same step (from linear to tactile) could tell me the feeling about these two switches coming from the MX Black? Thanks in advance(I've also ordered a tester, but it won't arrive before 2 weeks, so I can't try them before buying the K-Type...)

I think since you're coming from a relatively heavy linear, and the fact that you're moving to a gorgeous deck that also has modular (CIY) sockets, worst case you'd basically be out of a set of switches if you didn't like them. I think Kailh's Black is a little stronger than MX Black, but you may not notice the difference. All depends on how sensitive you are. Going from Blacks to Reds is a bit more of a change since it's a relatively heavy switch to a fairly light switch. Going from Linear to tactile is also odd at first, but can be welcome in you're open to it. Personally, I'm a Linear user as well, but I also enjoy some nice, crisp heavy clicky switches (such as Greens). To each their own! I'd perhaps consider going with Blacks on the K-Type, and maybe get a few of another type of switch as a test-run and see how they feel to you. My two cents. :)
Enjoy the deck and have fun on the journey!
