My latest addition to the collection. The very affordable Timex Fairfield Sub-second watch. My only reservation is its 12mm thickness (for a quartz watch). However, it sits nicely on the wrist. And as other Timex tick quite loudly, this one is suprisingly silent!

Ain't no Blues like the Ice Blues! Spent the better part of hour trying to fit a new strap to my lowly little Seiko SRP481K1, and came away with more than a few observations...

First is that the Ocean Blue, Clockwork Synergy you see on the left, is probably the closest "matching" blue I've been able to locate for the Ice Monster's blue accents. That said, whoever decided to drill the lug holes where they did, and they other guy who called them "holes" in the first place, should be drawn and quartered. A) they're in the worst place possible, and B) they're not holes, they're divots, nay--impressions where divots might be! Second, is that idea about spring bars with a little "handle" that lets you quickly attach and detach a given strap, is more art than science. And when you combine the two (divots and art) you end up with an hour or so of frustration --"the likes of which, the world has never known!" And for all my trouble, I have to say: screw it--it wasn't worth it! The strap itself was comfortable, but way too tough to buckle, and only just long enough to make it all the way 'round my wrist. Once I'd gone to the trouble of removing the pretty damn decent stainless steel bracelet the Ice Monster shipped with, I thought I may as well try a few "alt straps" I had laying around (one NATO, one Zulu). But what did I discover? The damn pins fit so close to the watch case that there is no way on earth to insert the strap of either one, between that bar and the case! Not even trying to pull it through with pliers! Even that wimpy Seiko supplied NATO on the right could find it's way past that case and those pins! So, color me disappointed! Know what I did? Tossed all that stuff in a drawer and put the damn metal bracelet back on the SRP481K1, and called it a night--that's what I did! for the

I like a man who likes a Timex, but... "I distrust a man who says "when". If he's got to be careful not to drink too much, it's because he's not to be trusted when he does."
