To help you get to know the people behind our Staff Picks collection, we asked each team member a little about themselves, how they got interested in their favorite community, and what else they’re doing these days. Read the Q&A, check out their picks, and use the comment section to ask questions or just say hello.

Meet Louis, who’s all about the Watches Community.

Q: What do you do at Massdrop? A: I work with designers, engineers, and executives to try to make Massdrop's web experience a bit better every week. Our team takes feedback from Massdrop members and merges it with analytics to design new features which we hope help people navigate, share, and connect more easily on site.
Q: What do you like most about working at Massdrop?
A: The people. The people are astoundingly bright, low ego and passionate. The company is driven by great leadership and mentors from whom I am ever learning.
Q: How did you get into watches?
A: I was first introduced to the world of watches when I stole a Robb Report from a dentist's office. The magazine featured Ulysse Nardin and I've admired unique complications as a feat of art and precision engineering ever since. Probably studied Mechanical Engineering in college as a result. When I really began wearing watches was when my father asked me what I wanted as a college graduation gift and a watch seemed fitting. I began naively studying watches until I landed on a surf watch which would end up taking me all over South America - the Nixon 42-20.
Q: What are some of your favorite products in that community?
A: Anything by Nomos, Junghans and Mondaine. The Nomos Metro is probably a grail watch for me. I also keep staring at the Seiko Core SKX Dive Watch.
Q: What are some of your other hobbies/interests?
A: There is a profound joy accessible in many activities in life. My top ones are probably: wake surfing, surfing, snowboarding / skiing, tennis, and helping others.
