ThujanI hear you man. My listening room (the entire house actually) is tile too. One word: RUGS. And lots of them. Really makes a difference and adds something constructive to the room.

ThujanNow you just need to carpet those floors (because it looks like that floors cold as hell) and foam the walls (unless you dont live with anyone) I used studio foam in mine it helps cut the vibration from the sub on my top floors.

Richard123Im planning on adding carpet tiles to that section and possibly acoustic panels. I focused on getting the speakers and the projector first. Setting it all up took a while as I'm a student. I ended up spending 1200 for the speakers plus reciever setup, 1250 for the epson 5020ub projector and silver ticket screen, and 1130 for the sectional couch. I litterally assembled everything during the past month. I'm liking all the feedback im getting.

ThujanGo klipsch, great choice🎬 My designer wife would tell you “too much tile”. A dense cut pile carpet on a memory foam pad, the linear absorption looks interesting, and you should like it better already for a plush, comfy First step. It will sound and look better too;) Don‘t I know... http://www.bebec.eu/Downloads/BeBeC2012/Papers/BeBeC-2012-05.pdf https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B071FX4HQ2/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1508684633&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=sound+rug+pad&dpPl=1&dpID=41T4s5MrEOL&ref=plSrch

rastusSo I should add a rug, since the area is about 22 feet by 12 feet up to where the pole is. Should I just get a 7 feet by 10 feet rug to put in the middle between the Projector screen and couch? Or just carpet the section. I rather get a rug, but would it be enough to notice an acoustic difference?

ThujanThis is near exactly what I wanted to do, however I don't have the space... You can get all pieces of the Klipsch system you have setup there at Newegg right now for a deep discount. Very nice sir!

ThujanShould angle your center channel speaker to ear level in your primary seating position, angle the L/R speakers towards your seat and the distance between the left and right speaker should be the same between your primary seat and each speaker forming a perfect triangle, this will give u pinpoint imaging. Dialogue will sound like its coming right out of their mouths. Looks good, congrats! https://www.dolby.com/us/en/guide/surround-sound-speaker-setup/7-1-setup.html

Here both acoustics and room design meet. For sound a larger rug will be better, less tile. For design your carpet is a visual anchor, so it should not (still a choice:) be a postage stamp on the floor. It should come under the sofa front feet, the long section, about a foot +\- a few inches ok, then completely under the extension. It should be right up to/better just near the R&L speaker fronts. It can go under the speakers but not to the wall, this is the design side speaking, this will also be ok for acoustics. I saw thicker memory foam than what I linked, up to 7/16"; a dense carpet will also be doing a lot of the work. Toughest thing will be getting a carpet to go with the wall color, design rule is carpet/floor first:) I know these things... immersion learning (like drowning sometimes)... but you can work backwards. Pics, Functional Only vs Design & Function; rugs/deadening mats.

ThujanLooks good. You should run your cable up the wall, over your ceiling tile and down one of those columns and place your sub next to the couch. You will get alot more clean bass effect and not have to crank you sub as much.

ThujanYou just need an area rug, with what I am seeing as a good use of memory foam as a pad; comfort to the feet and ears. If those are 1' tiles an 8' x 10' would be right. I am asking my esteemed & talented designer wife for input... should be interesting,, let's see what I get...

rastusSo I grabbed this rug from home depot. It was a bit pricy at 450$ with tax. Its 10feet by 8feet. I also followed the advice of adjusting the angle of the speakers towards me https://massdrop- s3.imgix.net/img_comment/nssA2YcSTq26AedGInjJ_20171023_144048.jpg

rastusIdk that brown doesn't exactly clash with the green wall. Plus it will coordinate with the pillows on the couch.
Richard123he'll know his room sounds soon...... ;)

jeezus, dude. you certainly must know what the inside of a tin can sounds like.(Pre-rug) :-)
seriously... Throw rugs from Amazon, until you get sorted. (Amazon is easy on us Canookies, too, depending on where ya live.) I went for the Toftbo, it's a thick Ikea throw rug,(that actually does NOT require assembly in swedish!) that's meant for us to put as a mat in the bathroom, but I love them for the comfort, good sound absorption qualities, and, when done with them because you got that sweet 2 million dollar Persian rug that goes with the set-up, can be placed around in other areas, easy to just pick up and toss into the washer. Good neutral colours. Cheap, like 8 bux, you can lay them on top of that big rug in spots that are sound happy....
I find them awesome as terrier placemats, when needed. Especially at the back door.

Thujannice setup, would you put your towers up higher so they more aligned with the middle of your screen?
Gregotav

Oct 25, 2017
EdwgThey're honestly about the right height. You want the tweeters to be about level with your ears when you're sitting down. Although the screen might be a bit high for it's size it won't make as much of a difference as out of line tweeters would.
Thujan

EdwgI plan on building a bigger screen by 20 inches or so. I'll probably just lower the screen a bit down to match the speaker height.

ThujanThujan,
Don't take this the wrong way,, I hope you can handle the truth, I know it is often hard because it really gets personal, but here it is from the horse's mouth (left "puke" in). FYI I also did not mention that you had bought a B&W carpet, there you made the right choice - as I (lay person;) also said, she is looking at the tile floor and sofa you already have and chose "white or gray and black" . Please understand this is real
,, that this would normally cost $150 for her to walk in your door, gratis here.
What I asked (w/pasted pics):
"Need an expert favor… For this area what rug? Guy on blog asking, try to match green or go elsewhere with rug color? Needs sound deadening… Looks like from tile that an 8’ x 10’ ? should go from in front of the tall speakers to just under the sofa long side and fully under the sofa lie down ‘L’ extension? Thanks, oxox"
What I got (please note that I did put in "oxox", and cashed in some hubby points for you, to get this):
"8x10 yes, what's with the brown, puke green and gray?!?! Maybe something in gray and white or gray and black. Get rid of the puke green or at least repaint the brown wall to something that goes with gray sofa. Rug sources all depends on budget Home Decorator https://www.therugcompany.com/us-en/ https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/cat/rugs-c215385.html "
Now that MD is a home decorator chat site;)... I did not even bother to mention to her that you are now looking at a brown carpet with the gray couch... brown carpet is out... and yes you should repaint the brown wall... if not the green ones as well...
Gregotav; I'm surprised that she didn't comment on the brown pillows you like,, I know though that in her mind those were simply thrown away, given to the dogs... She would match these as bolder "accent pillows" for the gray sofa, to match what is chosen as to the rug and what is done for wall color "repair"...
Now to get past the decorating crap; how does it sound? Done Interstellar (all), Matrix (lobby scene:) and Saving Private Ryan (Omaha Beach scene)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nT0kYvUFqVc
Others chime in; favorite quality audio/visual scenes/movies/concerts for Thujan to watch, with the new system?
Oh, do want to hear a review on the carpet/memory foam pad vs carpet/std. pad, (get a regular pad from another rug, or borrow?).

rastusI do kind of regret the brown carpet. I tried to get a black one instead and replace the wooden furniture with a black finish, and some kind of black pillow to match. I would very well consider repainting the area to a darker color to help with the contrast of the projector screen aswell. Surround does sound better with the carpet as frequencies became more refined and less "muddled". Having a carpet is a great addition. I exhausted my funds at the moment. I'll give repainting the walls a shot during the winter break! I just finished my midterms and I'm just going to kick back and enjoy the fruits of my labor for now.

rastusThey won't take it back. The said their warehouse is in the US. This is the current state of things. I just got a bigger 120 inch screen in a matte grey. The matte grey screen really does improve contrast in low light conditions. I love the new screen. I took out the light fixtures and had to do some drywall patching. I currently have it drying, then I have to apply a bit of leftover paint and it should be good. This winter I'll be repainting the entire section.

ThujanNice! A future upgrade u should consider is a Marantz sr 601X - 701X receiver. If u feel like you are hearing harsh highs at times the Marantz receivers are warmer sounding and will help tame that down and like the Denon u get audessey room correction software, it can really dial your speakers in.
