Unfortunately the $100 mark is rather awkward. For just a little over $100 there is a leap in quality (and reputation) unseen in the under-$100 range. I mean the Lamy 2000 and the Pilot Custom Heritage 92. While the CH92 cannot be bought for under $100, the Lamy 2000 has indeed been offered for About $100 here on Massdrop. Therefore I am including it in my list. I am going with actual right-now prices not MSRP, the Lamy 2000 being the only exception.

1-Lamy 2000 Why? Because Lamy 2000.

2-Pilot Custom 74 Why? Japanese quality, 14kt gold nib, under $80; what more do you need?

3-Platinum 3776 Why? See 2

4- Italix Parson's Essential, or Viper Strike, or even Churchman's Prescriptor. Why? Custom nib work, for about $60.

5-Levenger L-Tech 3.0 Why? It looks like a Rotring 600, precisely-machined solid aluminum, screw-in nib assembly

6-Any Ensso or Namisu machined titanium pen when it drops on MD Why? Because Titanium

7-TWSBI 580AL Why? Solid quality demonstrator piston filler under $70. Honestly this one almost didn't make it to the list. Other considerations:

TherocI would agree with the Lamy 2000 if you could actually find it for under $100...Love that pen so much, I have two!
AC-MitchellAmazon offered the fine nib for $101 earlier this August. And that's Amazon, not a 3rd party seller. And in June it dropped here for under $100. So it's not strictly under $100, but it's so close and it's too good to be excluded.

TherocGreat list. Nice pics! I have all you listed but the Levenger, the 580AL (I have the TWSBI Mini), and the Kaweco.

TherocThe Platinum 3776 is really a nice pen. I love the black/silver models. The Platinum lacquer models are to die for, but they are more than $100.

TherocSurprised the Kaweco Supra didn't make it as the best compact FP...

SkipPpI dont know why, but I dont like the 3776... It feels way too clunky.. Maybe I got it because slip-n-seal? I remember using the charts blue with a UEF for physics, and it was a dream, but after I got another with B (my usual width), I've barely touched either of them.
