Dutch Angle Shots

more_vert
My first attempt at doing some long exposure photography.
This was taken using a 5D MKIII with a Sigma 50mm 1.4 art lens, I think it was shot at F11, iso was between 600-1200, with a 10 stop ND filter. Used bulb mode and think it took me almost 10 minutes to shoot!!!

I didn't know about the Dutch angle until about a week ago. The guy in the photo introduced me to it :)

If you take the shot at the camera's native ISO of 100 at f/16 with a 6 stop ND (like the Lee Little Stopper) you'll get the same exposure with less noise. Since geometry is the main aspect of this image, you may also want to try it in black and white.

@HassanS: can you explain what dutch angle is and why it's used? Can assume it's this tilted angle, but I've never heard that term before.

Personally I don't really think it works in photography but it's used in cinema all the time, http://petapixel.com/2016/05/12/dutch-angle-tilting-camera-dramatic-effect/

The picture came out nice, but not crazy about the angle... would be better if horizontal IMO.

@HassanS I've been working on a 120s exposure recently, but the post production has been tricky. I'll post it on Flickr when it's ready. I have a couple slow exposures up there now. (I'm fan of the 5D3 too.) https://www.flickr.com/photos/amclain
ZaphoonDamn, that album is really really good. Ebb and Flow and Burning the Midnight Oil are my two favorite ones.
Let us know when the 120s exposure are up!
