Thorburn and Van Heerden do a wonderful Tatical Filpper A2/A3 both are South African makers, both make knives they could esaily charge double for. I also believe that this drop could happen as they are ALWAYS doing stuff to get into American Market. here are a couple for example but they do a few http://bladegallery.com/shopexd.asp?id=96890 http://bladegallery.com/shopexd.asp?id=96886

ViajamesGood idea, seems like they and a lot of South African makers have been gaining attention in the past year through African Custom Knives. Thanks!

JonasHeinemanWhile they do some collabs, curious Jonas do you know if a Rockstead drop would be possible? While being expensive It is remarkable I have not read a single bad review on them and actually instead hear how good they are for the money out doing customs over double the price and more.
Also I have a thorburn custom and it is absolutely great for the money in terms of fit and finish- and the action is actually the best of any flipper I have held period. Both makers have deals with certain dealers I believe so the dealers are buying them at discounted prices but buying a bunch at the same time. So not sure why not they couldn't do something like that for massdrop.

JonasHeinemanAre you talking about rockstead or Thorburn? Cool thanks Jonas- feel that not only would Rockstead be a desired and well received item to do a drop, It seems that as they are a factory custom knife company and deal only with dealers they may be more inclined to do a drop order vs your custom order builder who has order books full of names for years to come.

tacomanAs beautiful as they are, I believe their knives are considered high mid techs. Could be wrong. If I recall, it was referred to by Jim Skelton as a production knife with custom quality and tolerances.

Nhammer58As I said they are a factory production knife company. Everything is hand put together. There machines are top of the line. Alot of the customs out there have less personal care and attention to them then rocksteads. Your Todd Begg and Shiros for the most part are factory knives that are hand put together. Todd Begg even had to do a press release because his 2000 dollar or so California custom knives people where surprised that these, while hand put together, are machined made and never touched by Todd himself. Also as rockstead have the means, I would reckon they would be more inclined to do a drop then a solo knife maker.
Also with Jim Skelton, his rockstead shin is still one of his top favorite knives and still has not sold it. Heck he even sold his Frank Fischer battle before the rockstead.

tacomanI agree with you 100%. I do think there are many makers whose knives should be considered custom builds. Lots of grey area. Shin knives pass through many talented builders before released. I have no problem referring to them as custom.

JonasHeinemanWith blade around the corner, I look forward to what rockstead says about doing a drop with massdrop. Thanks for being so hands on. What I like best about mass drop.
