Sure! Make it easier for people who like the same stuff to find each other :) Good thinking!

Not sure there could be enough to fill it, but it would certainly help with general organization. The current EDC category also covers items like flashlights which have equally large communities behind them.
However, I do like the general 'EDC' category to aggregate all things related to those sorts of categories. Maybe there just needs to be more tags ('knife', 'flashlight', 'wallet' etc) associated with drops to better sort through what we want to see?

Cyphrethere certainly are subcategories. tags might help. knives, outdoors, ultralight, EDC - all these appeal to the various types of prepper folks and back to nature people.

Another AYE! for a seperate knife community. Ultralight and a bit heavier all together to peruse. I am also tired of knives with blades made of cheap chnese steel, 8cr13Mv....whatever it is. I've picked p a few now and really dislike that steel for various reasons. I am a knife snob, and would love to see some higher end knives. Fixed and folders welcome, and perhaps some with a steel higher in quality than VG-10, which can be a decent steel for sure with a good heat trea. But more CPM S30V type blade steel quality and above. I don't know that Busse Combat is set up for a site like this, as they build to order, but if terms could be reached with them that would be AMAZING! Also, customs or even mid-techs from known, and respected makers using higher quality materials and steels would be nice. Unfortunately most custom makers, at least the ones who can't afford VERY expensive equipment to produce numbers like this site would require, tend to have a order book that a big batch of orders coming in at once may render that idea unfeasible. As HowAmI mentioned, all the cheap CRKT's with cheap steel has me bored to tears. Having never tried this horrible steel, when I picked up the CRKT M-16, I was really disappointed. I had one of the original models, in AUS-8, If i recall correctly, which was a MUCH nicer knife. I ended up giving that one to a friend overseas, assuming I could always replace it, but what I got from here just felt so cheap compared to the original. I'm a big fan of Lucas Burnley's knives and my heart fell when I gave the chinese steel on the M-16 workout because I already had a CRKT Burnley designed Buku on the way with the same blade steel. Even with an older steel such as AUS-8, I'd buy that over another 8Cr13@&$@! blade. While I rarely go above the $600 mark, I'm betting you would find folks interested in better, higher quality, costlier blades. More Benchmade knives perhaps, even CRKT's if they involve a decent blade steel. I understand there are plenty of people that want a knife to dig in the dirt with, something that no tears are spilt if it breaks or is lost, but I believe there would be a market at the other end of this he scale as well. And I second the idea of looking into Bark River and Esse knives. My $0.02 Oh, by the way, there is no such thing as surgical stainless steel. Not sure if that was a joke or not, but stainless has too much nickel it to be used in surgery due to the high number of people that are allergic to nickel. Some things ARE labeled as such, but it's not a real thing according to a medic friend who loves and collects knives as well.;-)

Wow, calm down. It's only a knife.

I second a crkt Homefront drop. Although I'd like to see some good budget knives as well in a knife community section mainly because I'm poor. But I am also tired of all the 8Cr13MoV knives. I wouldn't mind seeing some buck knives , tops , esee, bark river.

Hey @Sweatylion, I think you're on to something here.
What would you hope to gain from separating Knives from EDC? For example, do you want more knife drops and think that a separate community would support that? Are you looking for more specialized knives, or custom knives in the $750 to $2500 range? Do you think it would bring more enthusiast members to the site?
Before we had a Talk section to discuss things like this, a poll was created for exactly this reason: https://www.massdrop.com/vote/How-about-an-own-community-on-knives
We'll keep an eye on this thread and also the poll, I'm really interested to hear what you would hope to gain by giving knives its own community. Thanks for the suggestion!

JonasHeinemanI do beleive that there should be a new section for very expensive and high end knifes but i personally think we should not ignore the more budget concious members of the community. As for my personal suggestion i would love to see a CRKT Homefront or Buku drop.

JonasHeinemanI'd like to see a separate community just for knives and I feel that there shouldn't be knives in there that are under 80 bucks except for a few exceptions. Massdrop knife selection is getting boring as they're mostly shitty 8Cr13MoV knives or something I don't care about.
I'm talking about the tactical knives and nice EDC knives like 80-200+ Emerson RealSteel,Proelia Zero Tolerance Spyderco Benchmade Kizer Lionsteel etc

Absolutely. While most people are happy with just a knife, one that catches their eye from whatever store or flea market they happen to be at, the "knife community", we who appreciate finer blade steels & materials, understand the importance of heat treating, and thedl difference between elmax vs. "Surgical stainless", is certainly a niche crowd all themselves, worthy of their own category.
That said, with kabar drops past, I think a classic kabar 7" fighting knife would be a good drop? Have a choice between Army, Navy, Marine, etc models?
Would also love to see the Lionsteel SR2, availab l e in a multitude of colors, become a drop. Been eyeballing 'em already.
