Any one else disappointed with the build quality? I own The hd 600 and the hd 650 and the HD 6XX don't measure up. Im still breaking in the headphones so I can't comment on sound quality.

Ya the build quality seems on the cheap side although once you put them on no one cares. They are comfortable and sound great.

I see where you're coming from. I got mine in about a week ago, and the quality of the materials, especially the entire headband, and the overall look/feel of the plastic aren't something to write about. But I think it's a pretty sharp looking set of cans if you're not looking at it too closely :) Furthermore, I forget all that once I put it on and hear the music through it. Currently running it through Audio gd R2R 11, and really enjoying the warmth and expanded sound stage of HD600 (albeit at the cost of little detail). I'm fairly a newb (up until this month, I had been listening to my HD 595 for the past 10 years or so with no DAC/AMP), but I think if one were to get into this hobby, the HD650/6XX is a good reference headphone to have to compare against all your future acquisitions. It helps to get more out of headphone reviews too since many compare them against this classic.

I am liking the headphones so far, just got them though. Not liking the box they sent them in, it was so tight I had to tear it open to get the headphones case out of it. Would be a bummer if I ever tried to sell them, without that box.

The HD700’s are simply 700’s, no redux. I was just ready to push the button for the HD6XX on one of the previous drops, and then the 700’s popped up so chose them, no build quality issues, no regrets, no detail in sound left undiscovered...

I own the HD600 and the HD6xx. I really have no issue with the build quality. Even if sacrifices were made it’s fine at $200.
