One note, unless the nib is designed to be flexible, flexing the nib is referred to as "abuse." You will damage the pen.
Also, don't give up on a pen just because the nib isn't quite perfect out of the box. Most will need at least slight adjustment new out of the box to make them perfect.

lolajlIt'll depend on the problem the pen has--if you don't know how to make the adjustments, there are a bunch of places you can send the pen and have it adjusted. On expensive pens I usually send them to The Write Pen (Danny Fudge), but for a cheaper pen I'll do it myself. There are tons of resources online about restoring/maintaining/adjusting fountain pens but I'd start with the fountain pen network.

Thw1990Also, to practice adjusting nibs you can get a bunch of those cheap Chinese Jinhao/Hero pens and use them to learn how specific adjustments change the behaviour of a pen. It also helps that those pens are in general quite comfortable to write with.

dementiaIf you want to try it out yourself, Richard Binder has some great notes here: http://www.richardspens.com/pdf/workshop_notes.pdf
Otherwise, we hope to add an article on this subject soon. Stay tuned!

dementiaWell, pretty much any that catch your attention. X750 for example can take G nibs (i.e. Nikko) if you want to draw with them or make them flexible and if you're not afraid to just jam it in. I'd look on AliExpress and on similar sites and just buy whichever catch my fancy - most of the ones that would be decent for practice are around $2 a piece anyway.

DekayI need to try this again.
The first, and only time I did this mod, the feed wasn't quite flush enough to the nib for continuous ink flow, so it was really patchy. Then three days later the nib got all rusty and super stuck, so I just threw the whole thing out.
I do have some of the fancy Ti G nibs to try out next time... :D

dementiaAny one that is CHEAP. All you are interested is the nib, not the pen. And not limited to Jinhao, but any of the Chinese pens. Also look at the "Dollar, 717," when purchased in quantity, is pretty cheap.
