Sennheiser mic suggestions: mic headset or desk mic?

more_vert
I am looking at headphones, possibly the cheaper sennheiser range.. 300usd ish. and am wondering if i should look into the no-mic headsets and get a seperate mic. Also wondering what would be the most suggested of either field.

Most of the desktop mics seem to be omni directional. I'm looking for something that will not pick up background noise. I have my PC and an air purifier on my desk and sometimes family in the same room. Are there any options for a desktop mic that is directional, or will not pick up background noise?

The Massdrop + Sennheiser HD 6xx and the mod mic 4 or 5 is what. I am buying I am in the drop for the hd 6xx's and what I have hear about them is all good. The hd 6xx's are 199 flat no tax and free ship to the usa. The mod mic 4 is about 50 and the mod mic 5 is about 70. The hd 6xx's are based off of the hd650 from sennheiser. Hope this helpes

As an audiophile and also a microphone fanatic, I can tell you for a fact that it's far more suggested to have them separate in both fields. As for suggestions, I would get the Fidelio x2s and a CAD U37 microphone. The mic will easily compete with those of a much much higher price, (despite being 30 dollars,) and the headphones are great for gaming. Crazy soundstage and extremely fun sound signature. If you're dead set on a Sennheiser then I'd say the HD600 or HD660s if you can afford it. Most of Sennheiser's sound in that range is more balanced to my knowledge, so it may not be the best for gaming. I wrote this assuming you wanted a headset for gaming, so keep that in mind. The Sennheisers are still great for all around use.

I recently redid my setup for my PC and I sprang for the Blue Yeti and I have been loving it. It's nice to be able to use high end headphones that don't have a mic without having to worry how you can make it work. Would recommend the Blue Yeti, have never had anybody complain when I am chatting with them.
