I finally got around to bringing my Parker IM 5th Tech into rotation. It's my kind of eye candy, and it's not badly made either.

However, The reason I own it is Parker's "unique" 5th Tech writing system.

Honestly, there is nothing unique about it. It's writing characteristics are pretty much identical to those of the Sharpie|Pen.

Which, by the way, sells for half the price of a 5th Tech refill. Just a straight forward capillary fine-liner made to look like a fountain pen feed and nib. That said, the Sharpie|Pen is a pretty good writer, and so is my 5th Tech. Does it make my favorites list? It would have, had Parker refrained from selling it as something revolutionary.

TherocI love the Sharpie Pen, but haven't been able to try one of Parker's 5th TM pens. Is it worth adding it to my already-too-big collection?

LizIt really does write like the Sharpie|Pen; A smooth-writing fine fiber tip with no bleed-through or feathering. I guess it depends on how much you like Parker's premium finishes. If one of them haunts you, then an Urban or IM 5th Tech is well worth it. However, if you are looking for a novel, or revolutionary, writing experience, 5th Tech is not it.
