rastusI'm not asking if Sennheiser makes closed-back headphones. It's nice to have them come from a Massdrop collaboration, and those are clearly not the same headphones.
Besides padding and design, the sound signatures are likely very different. The HD598s have a frequency response of 10 Hz - 20kHz, while the HD6XX have a frequency response of 10 Hz - 41 kHz. That's a pretty significant impact, and you're likely to get much better sound stage on the HD6XX.

KPopOGJust a suggestion, as I don't think Senn is moving further in the closed direction serving the audiophile market; the other choice is the HD 380 PRO, monitors will always be there; sharing the technology. Their marketing folks simply must look forward into the future, as they have shown us again with the HE 1, the future is open. I only have closed cans for travel, Sony active NC for planes and Phonon passive NC -closed for hotels; would not buy another closed set for home listening.
