I think the reason being they are too hard to mass distribute, standmounts are much easier. And most people don't have big enough rooms for proper floorstander enjoyment, in those situations standmounts will usually sound better anyway.

JackulaI think a big part of what makes something Massdroppable is if placing an order for 500 of something would allow the manufacturer to give a significant discount and still make a reasonable profit. Echoing something from +ElectronicVices above, the direct-to-consumer small-production-scale market in North America is relatively robust already and margins are already relatively low, so offering companies like SVS or Emotiva an order for 200 speaker pairs isn't going to be enough to let them change their production methods, and isn't going to lower their production costs. Simultaneously it is going to be a big order for them to fill so it puts pressure on their production systems, which could actually cause increased costs for things like overtime and premiums paid in faster shipping or financing materials that they otherwise don't incur. For companies like ELAC, B&W and JBL to do a discount is more realistic because they can just bundle what they already do into one big order and save on the hassle of filling a dozen or so smaller orders from distributors. Also, big manufacturers focus on their distributors because that is their direct customer. The small direct-to-consumer manufacturers are their own distributors and retailers. Making a deal with Massdrop would undercut their own retail network and "punish" the customers who bought directly from them at higher prices. Sadly I think there is a lot in the way of a drop with companies like SVS, Golden Ear, Magnepan, Tekton and Ascend Acoustics. I'd personally love to see a drop on Magnepan .7i, Golden Ear Triton 3+, Tekton Electron or Ascend Acoustics Sierra Towers. Of course I'd really love to see a drop on exactly the speaker I am most interested in, but the idea of doing a drop on $3k+ products is just not how this generally gets done.
