Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

I would LOVE to see a collaboration on the Momentum (or HD1 as they call it now?) I still have the og Momentum over ears (more like on ear though) and still love them. I never upgraded to the 2nd version w larger cups or the current HD1.
Come on MD, give us a portable headphone collaboration with Senn!!!
Oh, a girl can wish! I don't even mind if they are a tweaked Bluetooth version. Ideally it's a Massdrop HD1x Momentum over ear. Please please please.
What would you want to see in an upgraded Momentum?
-original tuning from the 1st Momentum for the musicality and ability to do many genres well; maybe tweaked for more low end and better sub bass. I'm an 'audiophile' but I go for gear that sounds warm and engaging -same great mids and laid-back but present treble (I'm treble sensitive but certainly can eq) -efficiency to get the best output from a smartphone/tablet without need for a portable amp -USB C to Momentum mini jack cable :) -better cable lock mechanism at earcup (mine have to be tweaked each time I listen since the plastic groove that locks in the cable is worn down; the slightest bump I guess unseats the jack) -ability to use either earcup for the cable -folding hinges (done!) -higher quality, thicker cable (or upgrade options available!) with the same hinged 3.5mm jack; the thin rubbery cable seems out of place on a beefy headphone like the Momentum; mine shows wear despite taking excellent care -better strain relief -bigger earpads, replaceable, same soft leather with option for XL pads with more padding; same great isolation -more headband padding with the same split metal band at the top to displace the pressure (and prevent headphone-hair) -aesthetically I still think they are some of the best looking portable consumer headphones without being gaudy and the sound quality to back it up! A flat black steel headband with black cups would be amazing *stretch goal: wooden earcup version?! -same lightweight design and clamping pressure; Momentums are the only ones I've owned that I could listen to for hours without discomfort -i like the easy adjustment sliders but having long hair, it always gets stuck in the sliders when I adjust them, ouch - maybe a way to lock the sliders? or even a new slider mechanism with the same headband that won't trap hair when adjusting
I really hope this doesn't come across as complaints about my original OE Momentums- as I said I do still love them! When I sat down and started thinking about things I would love to see, I realized it's mostly about functional changes with a minor sound tweak. Sure, a little more low end would be great and maybe a wider soundstage, but really I cannot complain, even about the very first iteration! They have served me well. I didn't upgrade to 2nd version with larger cups/pads based on reviews that it didn't sound as lush and engaging. Never tried the on-ear as I can't tolerate the pressure- prefer a true closed back around ear headphone.
I would love to hear what others who love the Momentum 1, 2, and HD1 OE would suggest! And as a potential community collaboration, I think there are quite a few here that would love to see Sennheiser do something for a portable closed back along the lines of the Momentum/HD1 or similar. I definitely hope so. There have been many collaborations for open back, home listening, IEMs, amps/dacs so it feels like the time is right and Senn is my pick for a portable closed back. But if not, I'll upgrade to the HD1 eventually I hope. Thanks again!
-long term sonic and physical comfort are indeed basic needs, if you can’t listen for more than 30 minutes, what’s the point, right? We have an accord! - A smooth, engaging but laid back sound signature is generally what our house sound is known for, although we also feature headphone sound signatures with something for everyone throughout the product range. Rest assured, the Momentum line (HD-1 in the USA) is tuned with a captivating but well-rounded signature. I’ll forward your comments about soundstage and bass to the product managers... -Another note to consider on the topic of sound signature: we highly recommend trying out our free CapTune app. It can playback music from your smartphone’s built-in music app AND TIDAL, allows for custom-tuned parabolic EQ’s for each headphone and Sennheiser-made profiles for our Bluetooth headphones, as well as a live visual representation of how much energy is pumping at each frequency, and offers a cool A/B EQ comparison tool that smartly helps you hone in on your perfect signature by voting for “I like this sound better.” That way, you can be your own tuning artist, and really learn along the way! - We have indeed made strides in headphone driving efficiency in recent years, and we understand the convenience of not carrying ad-on amp, DACs, dongles, and battery packs. Though we have achieved sufficient but safe listening volumes on most smartphones, it is still an inescapable fact that some amps have less distortion and some DACs are more precise, and the component quality of different music players will vary. Obviously, there is a BROAD choice of music players/smartphones on the market, but a way Sennheiser can help optimize the signal chain on-the-go is actually through the rapidly improving Bluetooth technology. After wireless transmission, the music signal is recreated by Sennheiser selected DAC and amp components before a very short signal path to the earcup drivers, bypassing much of the electronics in a jack-of-all-trades smartphone. This would also be A workaround solution for people that don’t find the wire exit on one earcup to be ergonomic in their environmen. -The HD-1/Momentum M2 AEBT also had care spent making sure the wired connection suffered no loss in quality, so when you aren’t commuting and you do have a glorious wired desktop setup, the headphones will still enjoy the upgrade! -USB-C sure is great. It’s still new to the market but seeing pretty good adoption. We can’t make any prom right now, but we’ll see what the future holds... -Have you contacted Sennheiser support about your cabl, with the lock and wear issues? Let me know your country, and I will reply with a support link ^__^ -Pads can have a pretty strong effect on the sound, and pads too thick and moving the ear further from the driver can change the sound. It’s a balancing game... one we are constantly researching. That said, thin pads can be surprisingly comfortable too: see the HD 800 S, and we think the hybrid pads on our new closed-back flagship HD 820 are some of our best ever. -Thank you for your comments about hair and the adjusters! We need more insight from our female audio enthusiasts. Also curious, do you move your hair out of the way, or do you set the headphones on top of your hair on top of your ears? -Wood is indeed cool, but it presents challenges with weight, resonance, even temperature and humidity effects. Not impossible, but we’ll have to wait and see... -Thanks for the compliments on folding hinges, aesthetics, and your long-term satisfaction! It means a lot!
We appreciate your affection and wishes, have a great day!
As for my hair getting caught in the sliders, if I am wearing my hair down, I move it off my ears and the place headphones. But the friction on the sliders (I guess?) has lessened in my years of use so I have to re-adjust the sliders after walking around or laying down, a hair or 3 gets caught in the headband and slider. Rarely an issue when wear my hair up/ponytail. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but a unique issue to the headphones' design.
I too appreciate the feedback. And Sennheiser's house sound is no doubt one of my favorites hands down. As I said before, the Momentums are the only headphones that I put on out of the box and I was wowed immediately. They just do so many things well; even through my Pixel XL2 with USB C to 3.5mm adapter! And as for ear pads, they absolutely can change the sound which is why I hesitated to upgrade to the newest M2 or HD1, but I trust that the signature sound is still there.
Thanks again. Look forward to what you guys have in store!!! 😎 🎧👌
But back to making your OG Momentum OGreat again, here’s the US Link for service and support: https://service.sennheiserusa.com
Thanks again for the back and forth! Hope to talk to you again sometime, or see you at a CanJam or other audio meet!
Do you like that the HD 6XX comes in a special edition color? The brown color of the original Momentum was a bit of a risk, but we mostly received good responses about the looks!
