Tactical stuff is only for ridiculous mall ninjas to carry and feel like a bad ass. The majority of it isn't actually practical to use, and I can't help but laugh at people who own 'tacticool' crap

AidoSpot on. With the majority of the "tacticool" designs, if you try to cut anything more resistant than an envelope or jello, your hand will be more damaged than the item you are attempting to cut. The majority of knives available today are designed by people who have never used a knife on a daily basis, just like the majority of ARf15 add-ons are designed by people who have never fired an ARf15 or run it hard.

AidoHey I like my Benchmade 917sbk and I actually carry it at work. I‘m a Deputy at a harbor though, so I might have a little more use for it than the average person. But it’s definitely not just for “mall ninjas“ haha! I like having serrations for cutting boat line, and Ive been first on scene for many boat and vehicle accidents. Plus I like the idea of having a seatbelt cutter and glass breaker for potential self rescue. Even if you don’t experience emergencies first hand all the time, there are so many scenarios where these tools could have saved someone had they been carrying it.

Dhill21I teach CPR as well as other rescue techniques professionally and re-cert professionals and I can tell you from first hand experience that people who put down the carrying of high quality "Tactical Style" knives are the same clueless people that do nothing and watch their friends and love ones die waiting for EMS! Anyone can learn how to use a knife correctly for defense and/or to save a life.

cybachefThat's ridiculous. You can do all that with a normal folding knife that's just designed to cut stuff as well as some tacticool piece of crap that's designed to make the owner feel like a badass for carrying it

AidoWhat do you mean by a normal folding knife? At the very least, whatever category you want to classify a knife, for me, it needs to lock securely when open, and be easy to open and close one-handed. Tactical merely means having a plan; I like to plan on that maybe one of my hands might be holding something while I reach into my pocket to grab my knife to cut it. A traditional lock Back with no thumb studs, or a Swiss Army knife usually requires two hands to open.

Dhill21A normal folding knife meaning a knife that's just designed to cut things well like say a spyderco delica as opposed to something like a ZT 0452 that's obviously designed to look all murdery and appeals to mall ninjas who don't care too much about a knifes ability to actually cut things

AidoThat‘s a fair way to look at it, the ZT0452 is large and impractical for most people but I wouldnt call it a tactical piece of crap, it cuts well, is made of higher end materials over the delica, and has a better warranty than a Spyderco (fast service and blade replacement as an option over having to buy a whole new knife if something bad happens). At the end of the day, I’d like to think that someone who purchases a Spyderco or ZT probably did a little research into what they were buying, as they are getting something that cuts well.
