First DAC/Amp suggestions, also compared to Audio Interfaces

more_vert
Can anyone give me suggestions for entry level DACs/Amps? I'm looking for a decent all rounder, but I just started so I'm only looking to spend around 100-150 on a DAC first and then build from there. I also plan to do audio production related stuff on the side so should I just get an Audio Interface before, I have used the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (1st Gen), as much as I like it for the price, they seem to have a hard time isolating electrical noise and I can hear them with my KRK Rokkit 5s. Audio Interface suggestions are welcome as well.
Also, what would be the main pros/cons, differences of using Audio Interface compared to DACs/Amps, or should I have each, would love some feedback on this.

I started out with a Focusrite firewire interface. It worked perfectly and sounded great. I still have it.
If you are just starting out, you might want to consider used gear. There is a ton of it out there, and if you get addicted to good-sounding audio, you will probably want to "upgrade" in the not too distant future. Not paying so much as you cycle go through pieces of gear over the years will help ease the $ pain a little. Used gear sounds exactly the same as new (solid state gear anyway).

Hi there I had the Focusrite to start out with and for me was a good all rounder you know good input and output I then went to a dedicated headphone amp/Dac the SMSL M6 and the sound quality was a step up through a pair of AKG K702. It was awhile back so can't compare directly but it was a wake up call that separate parts definitely lead to better sound. I would have inputs and outputs separate really as an item can't be the best at anything if its trying to do everything at once. Look at options from Schiit or SMSL.
