Internal DAC on the MacBook Pro (2012) is actually very good. Much better than my AudioQuest Dragonfly.
The latter of which provides a very thin sound in comparison.

Voyager3Not a mac guy but one thing that was very common to Apple products (particularly iphones) prior to the release of the iphone 7 was fairly "high" output impedance (5-10 ohms). A higher output impedance will impact the frequency response of low impedance headphones, typically adding a "warmer" or "fuller" sound but resulting in a lack of control. The dragonfly series (assuming 1.2 or later) has a very low output impedance and could very easily sound "thinner" but result in a more accurate representation of the source file and your chosen headphone.

ElectronicVicesInteresting. I've tried to do a couple of tests with regards to detail - but i can't tell the difference. The only difference is bass and 'thickness' of the sound. If i had known, I would have saved my money instead of buying the external DAC.
