I run an Apogee Groove on a Macbook pro, and I would say is a major improvement. I'm using Shure SRH1540s and AKG K7xx. It definitely has the power to drive the K7xx, where the Macbook does not. Apogee makes world class pro audio interfaces, there are actually 4 converters in the Groove and all of them are better than the one in my macbook, (which is good). It is the best I have heard, except for when I am plugged into my UA Apollo 8p, which is on yet another level of clarity and detail but not as convenient to use for casual listening.
