If you have a MAC, you don't need a DAC

Any suggestions for amps or amp/Dac combos (if that is even worthwhile) to pair with my purplehearts? I'm thinking somewhere in the 100 dollar range is what I'm looking for (keeping in mind I have to make the conversion to Canadian dollar)
If $100 is the maximum budget you can allocate, then I highly recommend you search for a good second-hand rather than the cheapest new one (assuming you're considering only economic factors).
Anyway, Fiio is a brand I would highly recommend to newcomers to the audiophile world. They pack a ton of features (and I really mean a ton compared to their competitor's products), and pair really well with most headphones. Obviously products from a higher tier would sound better in comparison, but for it's price, it's quality is tough to beat.
Make no mistake, the Fostex Purpleheart is a serious pair of cans that means real business, and getting a sub-par amp can really bottleneck its potential. (That's coming from my inner audio-snob, please don't mind me)
If you were willing to ditch the DAC and go for just an amp, then i'd recommend the Schiit Magni 2
(Which just happens to be just under $100)
Otherwise, i'd really recommend you wait till you have a more flexible budget, or go for a second hand Fiio combo.
Also, check out Audirvana.
It's a software that apparently promises to "decode" your music better without losing any quality, so it can effectively replace your DAC (or at least that's what their company says it can do)
Opinions on this software are on both extreme ends of the spectrum, so do download the free trial and have your own take on it before you make the purchase.
