A thread for me! Looking to get into audio, will be commuting every day by train and bike, driving out of my phone. I'm really interested in the EDC, are they good starters and are the EDC3s worth 40 bucks more?
Also, K7XX or 6XX? I love the looks of the first but I've had only good experiences with Sennheiser.

PyroLYou’ll probably want closed back headphones or IEMs for portable. The k7xx is a great set of cans (super comfy, crazy soundstage) but everyone on the bus will hear your tunes too. The same is true of the 6xx (can’t speak for that one, but my hd600 is pretty similar. Tighter soundstage, but oooh so detailed)
recommendations in price ascending are emu purple hearts (on here 80$), shure 215 (arguably the best starter iem runs about 100$ but Ive seen them down to 60 on sale), Massdrops Noble X is a good set in the 250$ range or you can get the wizard tuned ones for a bit more (he’s a beast so I’d definitely recommend springing the extra cash) and finally the Sennheiser momentum is a nice midrange set of overheads. (Make sure you get the newest generation as I know they frequently improve on this set.

Sourcing is another interesting topic. If going from your phone I can say the audio quest dragonfly is the most convenient and provides a noticeable improvement over most any onboard DAC. That being said if you’re on anything but iphone I vastly preferred the Dacport from centrance. Much wider stage and richer sound, but I could never get it to work on my idevice.
This mostly covers the lower-middle range as this rabbit hole goes really really deep. (I’m waiting on a set of 900$ IEMs from massdrop - looking at you @bradr ) so if you have any questions feel free to reach out.

SlobloI don't plan to take $200 headphones on the train much, so I know about the open back sound leak.
Thanks for the headphone recommendations, I'll look into the ones I don't know yet. I've had a wayyy better experience with Sennheiser 461Gs than the Momentums. The earpads are really stiff but it didn't bother me much once I got used to it.
I can't imagine spending $900 on an audio set up yet. All that money being taken away from keyboards!

PyroLNot huge fan of Sennheiser Momentum M2s either, headband is too thin, the leather ear pads come flatten out on one edge, and they are sibilant on all sources I’ve tried them on.
If you ever save up enough, I’d recommend the PM-3s (Oppo is going to discontinue it soon though) or the new P7 wireless (not the wired originally p7, the new wireless p7 has better sound revisions).
