Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

I've tried IEMs and I haven't found a set that I can wear for more than about an hour without my ears hurting. They're also hard to take out when someone walks up to me.
I can't use open headphones because any sound leaking out will annoy the people who sit near me.
I have the HD6XX at home, which I love. I'm looking for something fun to listen to, not necessarily a studio headphone. I use an iphone as my source. I tried a pair of bose QC35s and the sound just doesn't do it for me. I don't need ANC (some others I've tried hurt my ears, or I hear a buzz in the background) but I definitely can't have any sound leak out. Comfort while wearing glasses is required also.
Help?
My closed-back, drive-em-off-of-a-phone headphones are the Beoplay H6, which are very nice for their portability, but have a semi-on-ear fit that won't be comfortable for everyone. At work I normally use Audeze iSines, which are IEMs and closed-back, so they won't fit your use case, but I like them because they pass enough sound that I can be vaguely aware of what's going on around me. Good earbuds are also nice for this reason (I also keep a pair of Venture Electronics Zen 2 earbuds at work). Neither leaks enough sound to cause problems.
P.S: I can relate with the ANC issue, I've never quite gotten used to it.
For my recommendation, I have 2 of them. The Sony MDR-1A, which can be found cheap on sales. These have a fun soundstage, bass is punchy enough, nothing to shout home about for the treble and slightly recessed mids. And they cant be folded. The comfort is alright at best.
The other is the more expensive V-Moda M100s. These headphones are at the top of my list for portable closed headphones for fun. GREAT build quality (like seriously impressive), fun sound signature (great bass, decent soundstage, treble and mids are pretty good), it folds to an impressively small footprint, comes with 2 cables, a really nice case (small to hold the headphones when folded). HOWEVER, the comfort out of the box is questionable. The clamp out of the box is tight for me, but a few stretches of the band solved that perfectly. But the stock pads are horrible. Thin with little to no padding and barely if not even covering your ears. But, when I got the optional XL Pads for about 20 dollars (?), comfort really skyrocketed. Soundstage also gets wider by a bit. And they don't get hot despite hours of wearing them. Though, comfort is really down to the individual.
My vote: M100s V-Moda + XL Pads. P.S: I cant stand the QC35s as well. :)
If you’d like even better sound quality, consider the audeze el8c. They‘re supposed to sound like the lcd3s, but in a closed back form. Audeze recently dropped the price from 700 to 330, and it’s been so popular at that price it’s been sold out. But if you’re patient it might be worth it.
I’ve also heard great things about the new Monoprice m1060c at 330.
personally I use a Oppo pm-3 with a ha2se and I love that combo. But it may be too flat for your taste
I waited forever to get a pair of these, because like many of us in the head-fi world, I've got rather a lot of headphones, and still just the two ears. I knew they aren't better on paper than pairs I already own, but finally some rolled around used.
They are just as generally described, easy to drive, easy to listen to, and just fun.
I'm surprised MD has never had a drop on these.
Cheers!
