I want to hike in California

more_vert
I will be traveling in California in May with friends. I consider myself to be an intermediate hiker who, due to orthopedic issues, attempts to avoid ankle-busting rocks. My fellow travelers are rather novice. We're all in our 60s.
We'll probably travel by car from San Fran to San Diego. We (or at least I) would like to explore some trails in Yosemite, JMT, King's Canyon, Joshua Tree, and possibly Sequoia. I'd like suggestions about what you consider the "best" parts of the aforementioned trails, as well as any other suggestions you might have.

Coastal, Cataract, and Old Mine Loop is one of my favorites just north of San Francisco in Marin.
It's a fairly easy 6.1 mile loop with 990ft of vertical.
The views are stunning - you follow the coastline in the mountains for about 3 miles with views of Stinson Beach and Bolinas. The latter half of the trail loops back through the woods. Or if you loved the way you came, just walk it right back.

53 yo NorCal native - JOSHUA TREE JUST HAD MAJOR FIRE :(… - Jedidiah Smith Redwoods, by far the best. - Sinky One Wilderness. - Shelter Cove, Black Beach [King Mtn is 4000' only 2 miles away. Shelter Cove is at sea level. ] - Pacific Crest Trail in any number of places. - Much of the geography can be quite steep in places. - The list could be a book! - Mind you these places are further North. If you want shore...!!! Stay South, I would go 395 and on up, lots of places...
