Traditionally, the goal was to create the impression of an oval face shape. As an optician for 45 years, I see that changing. Eyewear now is more about creating an image or reflecting an attitude . Don't be afraid of color or bold shapes, interesting lens coatings or intricate temple details. Eyewear is more than a necessity, it is an accessory. Look for distortion-free lenses, by holding them up to a light source and moving them from side to side. If the image wavers, the lenses may be warped. Look for replaceable screws at the temple hinges and for a wire core in the temple itself. These can be adjusted, by an optician for the most comfortable fit. High price and a designer name do not necessarily indicate quality.
