Hi everyone. Love reading everyone's comments so far. All good advise. As you continue on your quilting journey questions will arise. Missouri Star Forum is a great place to seek out advise. Their are beginning members and advanced members. I have picked up some good tips from Jordan Fabrics and their kits are pre cut which is nice if you have arthritis and trouble cutting your fabric. Along the way you will make quilts, quilts and more quilts. I think I have learned something with each one. I am still learning about boarders. I sometimes "cheat" and don't measure my quilt in the middle but just sew the boarder on and cut off the excess. Bad, bad and my lAQ scolds me because it causes excess fabric in the boarders. So my advise if you are doing boarders is to measure the middle of your quilt and cut your boarder to that measurement and then start pinning the boarder in the middle and both ends and finish pinning the remainder. The wider the boarder the more important you do this. And remember to have fun.

SewHappyI recommend Quilting Board for anything you want to know about quilting. Every post is organized in a particular subject areas, and the responses are dated. You will know if someone is responding to a subject you posted or are interested in . It's a real community of quilters. The categories are Main Quilting , Pictures, General Chit Chat, Vintage Machines, Mission--Organization, Links and Resources, QB Helps, Tutorials, Members Only-Sales and Swaps. I never miss a day reading at least the newest posts. QB does not sell anything and what members post is what they own and no longer want, so there are NO sales pitches.

SewHappyYes SewHappy! Any longarm quilter will tell you just how important measuring your quilt before putting on the border is. I'm amazed that even long time quilters will make this mistake. They make beautiful, complicated blocks and then just sew on a strip of fabric and trim the ends. Your longarm quilters aren't magicians. They can't make all those side borders with different measurements look perfect. Measure before you add the borders ... Top middle and bottom. Cut two borders the average and add, easing if nessary. Then measure again for the other two borders. This is not a step to skip if you want that quality look. PS, it's just as important if you hand quilt.
