Having owned a Schiit Modi Multibit (Aka Mimby) and now a Cambridge Audio Dac Magic Plus. From what I can hear, The Mimby has a very relax and slightly dark signature to it, having upgraded to the Dacmagic Plus I find this to be a lot more resolving and offers better layering. The Mimby simply can't beat my Dacmagic in detail and sounded muddy in comparison. I ended up selling the Mimby simply because of that.
How I see it is if you want a relaxing sound the Mimby is the way to go but at the expense of some details (IMO defeats the purpose of a Dac). And also you do have to leave the Mimby on for at least a few hours/days for it to sound at its best which wasn't ideal for me. Sorry couldn't give you a modi 2 impression but hope this helps.
P.S. If you are getting the Modi 2, please go for the Uber variant to avoid USB jitters.

WongWayI would go for the Jotunheim with one of the modules but don´t what to expect. In theory Multibit is supposed to sound more detailed because of the increased resolution of the sound (not sure if this difference is even audible tho).

jesse04030That's actually quite interesting, that was the reason why I got the Mimby in the first place but I guess it just didnt work out for me. You need to take into account of USB implementation too, when I had the Mimby it sounded better via SPDIF over USB (something you wouldn't have with the module). Other thing to consider, are you Ok having the Jot on all the time (it can get quite warm) to have the multibit running? Even Schiit themselves recommend leaving the multibit on all the time for best performance. Personally, I would recommend spending an extra $50 to go for the Modi Multibit if you decide to go the multibit route. The multibit module is so new, haven't yet seen a lot of impression yet and I'm sceptical of rushed impressions too (honeymoon period and all :/).

WongWayThanks for the recommendation. And yeah, I defintely won´t leave my amp on all the time. I can get quite nervous about fire hazard and the additional eletricity bills (which are pretty high in Germany). I will most likely wait a month or so and see how the multibit-module performs in other tests and if more people say that you should leave it on all time, I will get the Mimby instead.

WongWayOne question just came up while thinking about what to get: If I get a Mimby, will the output on the jotunheim still actually be balanced?

jesse04030https://benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/audio-myth-balanced-headphone-outputs-are-better In the case of Jot, it's clearly designed for you to utilise its balanced output where the SE is there mainly for convenience. If you look at the newly announced lyr 3, despite being "just" a SE amp is a more powerful device. If you read on headfi or reddit and various forums, one of the main complaints about the Jot has been the balanced dac. Also, neither the multibit module nor mimby are balanced.

WongWayOk, thanks. Then my choice will probably be the Mimby. I also read that the balanced DAC in the Jotunheim is the complaint and I dont want this to be the case with the Multibit-module +I get to have an optical input with the Mimby.

Cferrer1983A linear power supply. As opposed to most wall warts which are switching power supply.
