Looking for a little help with my first DSLR purchase

more_vert
So recently I've been dead set on getting a Canon T4i, nothing super expensive but definitely capable. However everywhere I look, whether it be Amazon or eBay I can't seem to find anything in a lower price range than $350. I'm a beginner with most of this stuff so I was wondering if anyone knew where I might be able to find the aforementioned T4i for around the $200-220 range or a good alternative to the T4i. Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

First off, if you're willing to spend the time, I'd recommend buying from the used market. I managed to get almost 60% off the MSRP. Secondly, I'd vouch for Sony's mirrorless cameras as an excellent introductory body. They're cheaper and more feature rich Thirdly, get the best lens you can. See if you can buy the camera body without the kit lens. Getting a 50mm Prime lens as your first lens is a reasonably common and well-founded thing to do. Prime lenses get you out of your comfort zone, which helps you learn. Fourth, I'd say that DSLRs under $500 (used) almost always have compromises. If you can wait until you can afford better gear I'd say it's worth it. If you want to learn or practice before diving in, I'd recommend getting a very old, cheap DSLR. Having good gear can only take you so far, the best photographers can get good shots on the cheapest equipment.
Hope you found some modicum of use out of that.
