Short answer; For a fun and sound quality well beyond the price tag IEM, try the Kinera H3. These are going for very nice low prices. You won't need an amp for them running off your iPhone. I liked this so much when I snagged my first set that I bought another pair.
Headphones- If you can do a Sennheiser upgrade, you should probably go for it. They make excellent all-rounders and carry enough bass to make a nice choice for your preferred listening choices. You are already aware of something of the Sennheiser sound, an upgrade in the line will only be a better version of that. If you stick with lower impedance phones, you wont immediately need an amp to drive them.... save up for an amp that will then only make your purchase sound better. I don't know if you can participate in the ebay market, but consider doing that and looking at lightly used gear, which may extend the range of your purchase options. Used gear at a lower price is also a pretty decent way to try something without having to pay a premium price for new. Just vet the item carefully and ask questions before buying anything. The other suggestion I might have for you, since you are off to college might be a closed-back headphone like the Beyerdynamic DT 770. Good for use in a dorm or in public spaces. They sound very very excellent.
Then, when you graduate college and get rich and all..... you can do anything you want for headphones. :-)
Wish we had a private message thing in here. I'd ask for your addy and then ship you a set of my headphones, since I have more than I need. It would be like a donation to your college future.

AnirudhGambhirSo the Senn 6XX is, essentially, the HD 650. The 6XX sold here for about 200 USD. Used HD 650's typically sell for over 300 USD. I am sure you could pick up a 598 , either closed back or open back for between 150 and 170 USD new, and I bet you could snag an excellent condition used set for less. The 598 is a nice sounding, somewhat neutral sounding headphone that many regard as the nice predecessor to the 600, which goes for over $250 new... the HD 600 is one of my favourite sets of headphones. The other side of this is that the HD600's have a high enough impedance that you will need an amp to power them happily.

TiffanyPoodleslideThanks again. Last thing, my Sennheiser hd 180 are the only over ears that I can wear for long time. The super lux is basically a Akg ripoff and I am not able to wear them for long time. So will dt 770 be a better fit or the 598

AnirudhGambhirI find both sets of headphones to be very comfortable. The DT 770 got me through my college dormitory years with several guys who snored while asleep and were kind of noisy when they weren't sleeping. Those velour cups are pretty cushy and pretty easily replaced. I think you will be okay with either choice. The cups are kind of similar but the Senn is an oval where the BeyerD is round.

AnirudhGambhirHOLY SHOOT!!! Is that USD?
jeez! We can get that here for much less. Hang on, let me see if the guy on ebay still sells them out of China.
The other Kineras offered on here are pretty fun and less costly, yet still sound good.

AnirudhGambhirOkay. There are several sellers on ebay offering the H3 for less than 100USD. Here's one guy I have dealt with link to a Kinera H3 item. I imagine you can find an India ebay site and he'll be on it.

TiffanyPoodleslideWell I checked it and they do say free shipping but duties are gonna make it at least 150-160$. What's your opinion on the triple drivers? They are available at 100$ incl. all taxes.

AnirudhGambhirIf you search Massdrop's site,(Search box top right of the page), for Kinera, there are some reviews,(mine included), and discussions about these IEMs. As I said, I enjoy mine to the extent that I bought a second pair from Penon Audio. You might find the warranty info on the drop page, you can email Massdrop for info about Warranty. I think they accept returns, but am not entirely sure, as I am not employed by Massdrop.
I TOTALLY think these are worthy IEMs and certainly sound better than the inexpensive price tag. They are very very comfortable too. I tend to not like IEMs due to comfort and they tend to sound "narrow" to me....these really get more wear than some of my other IEMs.
Wish I could fix that duties charge for ya, Kid-oh! It sux.

TiffanyPoodleslideOkay I might have figured this out. Recently my relative ordered an iPhone X and got it imported with a guy with minimal charges hardly $30. So if I ordered that way how will the warranty work

AnirudhGambhirI can't really answer that, you will have to check with the marketer of the item, be it Massdrop or Penon or whomever....although I would speculate that shipping method really shouldn't have anything to do with the warranty on the actual product itself. It would be like saying the warranty only works if you ship an object by post, but not if you use Fedex. Ask the relative with the phone, as it worked out for her/him.

AnirudhGambhirWell, Penon is based in China. So I figure their warranty is pretty worldwide. I have interacted with Penon directly about a custom order of Rose IEMs. It was an easy interaction. You should, absolutely, email them and see what they have to say. I am sure they will try to be helpful.
